Is the armor that Galmar wears considered heavy armor? One of his primary skills is Heavy Armor after all.

The Officer armor is actually heavy armor, just incorrectly listed as light armor

Well Ifeel that same for the Imperials, The majority of Legionaries should have the heavy legion armor on, only archer auxillia types should be sporting the leathers.

Well no since they rely on hit and run tactics it actually makes more sense they all wear light armor. They also don't have access to the resources the Empire has so they probably would not have the infrastrucure to mass produce heavy armor. Still though I would have liked the option when fighting for the Stormcloaks to pick a Heavy Armor set at the beginning.

Well, they're Nords. I would expect them to wear fur.

Nords are given bonuses for Light Armor. It would be odd if they were to wear Heavy Armor. Imperials, on the other hand, have a bonus to Heavy Armor. They should be the ones wearing Steel.

But most of the Imperial soldiers in Skyrim are Nords.

Both sides are wearing Light Armors, what's the problem about it? Only difference is on officers where Imperials are wearing heavy armor when Stormcloaks have the armor of bear. If they would wear heavy armor it should simply be the steel armor we have in the game. There are two types of steel armor in the game: Imperial and Nordic. Stormcloaks would of course choose the Nordic one - they are Nords and there's no mind to design and forge a new type of steel armor in the middle of the war.

The Heavy Armor thing for Imperials is at least amusing because they're well known in literature as shield carrying light infantry rather than heavily armored tank troops. But then again, they were also stripped of their Speech bonus this time around as well.

Never understood the loss of the Speech boost. It was their thing.

Well not every soldier has to wear heavy armor but at least the officers. Plus Nords are good with Steel and iron look at The Companions. But to have a whole army in the bitter cold with just leathet and beaer skin.just seems odd

Diplomacy was a hallmark of the Septim Empire. The Medean Empire, not so much.

I thought this was an interesting idea so I counted up the races listed as "Imperial soldiers." Here is my count:

Imperials: 26
Nords: 19
Bretons: 2
Redguards: 2

So it looks like we were both wrong. Imperial soldiers are not mostly Nords... but neither are they all Imperials, as I had thought. So I've amended my earlier post.

Imperials

Heavy Armor (Starter)
Light Armor (Starter)

Can't change unless someone dies using it.

Stormcloaks

Light Armor (Starter)
Heavy Armor (Complete or Almost Complete)

You can easily switch between Uniforms with Heavy and Light

Actually steel armor would be far colder than leathers/hide/fur armors in the cold

It makes sense for Nords to have it instead, in Skyrim.

Nords always wore heavy armor in past games so the light armor thing is a bit annoying. Not as annoying as the miniskirt on the female version of the officer armor.

I used to think that the new and improved enthusiastic greetings I got from my shield-brothers after my promotion were a result of my proven prowess on the battlefield. Then I got a look at my http://www.tumblr.com/tagged/my-imagination-is-full-of-wondersin third person. :P

Yeah but that's Imperial Legion, everyone there wears the same thing regardless of race (actually there seem to be more redguards).
