Why the hell can't I abandon quests?

So I got a random letter from a courier telling me to go to a museum, which then puts a quest into my miscellaneous quest list. So i go there, listen to some guy talk about daedric enablers, and when im done, i now have a new quest in my journal, even though I blatantly TOLD the guy that i am not going to help him find something, that people went to great lengths to hide away.

Of course there's no way to get this annoying entry out of my quest log. Its absolutely annoying. It pretty much forces this idea on you that you can either "do this quest now or do it later". I don't want to do either of those.

Even morrowind had a better journal system than this. If you didn't want to a complete a quest, the entry for it would be out of view as you progressed through other quests. Skyrim's system just makes clutter, how annoying.

Just because it's in your journal does not mean you have to do it.

I have like 70 or so items under MISC and it hasn't bothered me once.

I agree. If you tell a NPC no, it should mean no. The game is ignoring you. I have also found times when the NPCs don't have dialogue options to tell them no and you are forced to accept whatever outcome the devs want you to. There is less choice. Not good.
