Why the high level requirement for legendary dragons?

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 7:29 pm

My characters rarely get over level 64 ish, but I consider myself quite skilled at this game so I could handle a lengthy legendary dragon battle on master. Even with my equipment that I've limited to retain challenge in the game.

I don't power level my characters nor do I want to, defeats the object of RPG's if you're amazing at every skill IMO. So I'll never see these high level dragons, they could have easily added one in a set location that's there regardless of level.

Just catering to the 'WoW' idiots who play this game at level 81 from the start, power leveling and exploiting the game. Who then go on to complain the games easy with 200 damage weapons.

I really only have like 4 characters, the highest of which is 62(ish). I didn't even consider using the book exploit and simply played. Once DG comes to PS3 that's one aspect I'll probably never see. Legendary Dragons will remain just that for me I guess. :stare:

Its a great idea,an incentive for the player to reach higher levels - however, you can always fight against revered dragons

The high level requirements are so that you don't get owned (repeatedly) by a Legendary Dragon at level 15.

True, but its possible to fight a legendary dragon and any other enemy even at level 50,depends from the player's skill of course

Level 78 its a bit high, probably level 75 would have been more appropriate

current Dragon spawning (from CSlist)
Normal: 1+
Blood: 18+
Frost: 27+
Elder: 36+
Ancient: 45+
Revered: 59+
Legendary: 78+

My opinion is that 54+ for revered and 63+ for legendary would be far better and it would match the "every 9 level to the next dragon tier" tendency.

I'm so releuctant to get to/near to max level in Skyrim, I blew through Dawnguard so easily because it got released while my character was level 54 or so.
I'm level 63 now, and I'd like to fight a Legendary dragon, but I'd have to be level 78, and then in the two or three months it takes for the next DLC to release, I'll breeze through that one, too, which won't be fun.
(And if they add spears, I won't have any perks to spend!)

I've tried starting new characters but I always trend toward the exact same stealth archer, so it becomes pointless, and I'm so invested in my main character, what with all the amazing treasure I'm amassed, and the sentimental value of having had this same cute Orc chick since like last November, that I just end up going back to that save file anyway.

I think Bethesda should've added a new location where a Legendary dragon is guarenteed to spawn, regardless of level.
Some place far enough out of the way that the thing wouldn't fly by when you're level 15, but so you could reach it when you're in the 50s if you wanted to test your limits.
Maybe have another gem paragon that leads to some crazy far island or something.

I could easily agree with this.

I don't know that the three level drop would make much of a difference. By this stage of character development, there's only a noticeable change in character power about every five levels or so. The character has really 'plateaued' in terms of growing stronger with each level.

And while it wasn't mentioned in either of the two posts that I've quoted here, having a specific place for a Legendary Dragon to spawn kind of takes away from the 'rarity' that these Dragons are supposed to reflect. They're supposed to be the Dragons that are just below the unique, named Dragons in the world (you know, the strongest Dragons on Nirn). They're not supposed to be run into frequently, even once you do hit the required level for them to spawn.

If the Legendary Dragon were a frequent phenomenon, then they would quickly achieve no more than 'ho-hum' status. As it is now, they're rare. it takes work, time, and patience to get a Legendary Dragon to spawn and when they do, the battles are pretty epic.

The Legendary Dragons need to keep this rarity of appearance so as to keep high the difficulty of slaying them.

Someone even mentioned some months back about how they should even spawn at any level. there aren't words enough to properly disagree with such a line of thought. Legendary Dragons are creatures that give level 70+ characters a damn fine workout, what exactly is your level 5 character going to do other than piss it off?

No, leave the Legendary Dragons at a high level, but tweak the level of necessity. IMHO, I think that a mix between the two ideas quoted above would work best, but I leave the final decision in the hands of Bethesda's more than capable developers and designers.

All my high level characters are in the mid 60's. I had to use a level uncapper mod, finished the DLC and am doing side quests and still only at 69.
It really breaks your character to level so high. For the two characters that have played Dawnguard, my Nord werewolf hates magic and is a dunce with alchemy. My Breton mage vampire (level 62) never uses any armor or any weapons besides a bound bow.

But now I have to level skills I don't want in order to hit level 70 and face a legendary dragon.

comes with dawnguard and a load of other goodies.

It took me awhile to kill one of the things because none would pop up. Took a picture of its skeleton when I found one and to this day its still the only legendary dragon ive found.

My currently active character is level 64 and even that is too high for me personally. To get that high I had to max out Two Handed and Heavy Armor (skills my character doesn't use). To get high enough for Legendary Dragons to show up I'll have to boost up several skills to maximum.

To get Legendary Dragons to show up you literally have to level up all skills to some degree.

That was the whole point, for people that are a very high level, and seriously, in EVERY elder scrolls game EVER you were able to master 7 skills, in this game, that is not possible without the exploit. Especially using a mage.

Never knew that, thanks. My highest retired character is 60. She's a ridiculously OP battlemage - OP to the point where it's no fun.

I guess to give higher-level players a challenge? I don't mind grinding to see one though. A couple of points of health and more perks never hurt anybody. :D Currently level 69 on adept and Revered dragons give my character a run for her money.
