Why the women look ugly. There is aging in character creatio

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 5:54 pm

So as noted in another topic I decided to create a new character. Focus was female archer suvivalist.... saw Hunger Games last weekend and really wanted to shoot arrows.

In my character creation I wanted a female character I could stand to look at. Nord preset #2, with some minor changes, mainly lips, hair, eye brows... and she looks good. I will say beyond the paper bag butterfaces that you normally end up with. Actually looks good, I would rate her a 7 or 8 if she had skin instead of pixels. Not a super model, but you can stand to look at her.

Well I tried to copy her to an Imperial and a Breton. I copied the exact 'facial' measurements, so the only real difference was height. For some reason they looked slightly different, at first I kept trying to tweak the faces to look slightly better.... then I noticed what it was.

The nord female preset # 2 has no wrinkles, blemishes, looks healthy, etc. Good smooth skin. The Imperial I used had slightly sunk in cheeks, a couple barely visible wrinkles on her forehead, and a line(not a scare) going down beside her nose under her eye. And yes the 'complexion' was set the same for all, far left, but I played with it regardless. It wasn't it.

The Breton also has some small forehead wrinkles that the nord did not.

Conclusion. Nord girl is late teens, early 20s. Breton is mid 20s. Imperial is late 20s, early 30s. So there is aging... we just don't have any control over it.

Anyone else noticed this?

It may have something to do with the photos they took for each race's face texture.

Each race in this game has a different racial head mesh, as well as a second face-shape/mesh created in the generation process. Additionally, as mentioned by da mage, each race also has it's own texture (some races have deeper wrinkles, furrowed brows, muscular chins etc) for the most part. The end result is that just because the sliders are in the same place on two different races, they will not look the same, even remotely. But to your point, no, there is no ageing as such, you have your 'complexion' which has different age faces, but that's all.

yes and if you look at the forsworn compared to others you will see a huge difference in the types of female faces.

Also note that there are very few facial differences amongst most females in the game. There are a few random females in skyrim that are simply unique, and I have only found their face copied to forsworn a time or two. No one else shared their face.

And with elf races they have almost no variety. The khajiits all seem pretty unique from what I've seen.

Same with the males.
I'm not sure why the forsworn get so many unique faces...

I wish there was an age slider in Skyrim. Skyrim's character creation system is better than Oblivion's in many places, but direct control over your character's age is something I wish they would've kept in.

More evidence that Oblivion's character creation (Besides the Weight Slider) is superior.

I don't think there's a wrinkle slider... I've never noticed it at least. There's "laugh lines" but that doesn't really do a whole lot.

Yes, there is "age" slider in Skyrim, it's called "Complexion". It controls how much wrinkles you have

I took a look at Breton's female texture, and by Azura there are wrinkles in the base texture, meaning that even with no complexion at all wrinkles are guaranteed in Bretons. It may not be obvious, but it's there (to be more precisen around the laugh lines and lips)

Thank Akatosh I'm playing on PC. One retex later I have a smooth Breton. And I guess 17" monitor helps me to not notice it too

Explain to me how http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll13/Jingle_Bombs/Oblivion2010-12-1501-12-25-39.png even remotely compares to http://lytherus.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Nord2.jpg?

Add mods to the equation, and the end result is stacked even more against Oblivion, when you're comparing http://www.witchqueensia.com/gallery/d/64144-1/0007_013.jpg to http://tesalliance.org/forums/uploads/1294809541/gallery_1069_92_485043.jpg.

A few more sliders would have been nice, yeah, but as it is now, the Skyrim CC is a good ways ahead of Oblivion's. The lack of sliders helps keep proportions relatively realistic, and most of the time, allows even the least patient person to create a character they'll be content with. In Oblivion, it took a long time to get the hang of the CC, and even with mods and talent, getting a result like what Skyrim offers right off the bat would be damn near impossible.

this is really annoying it's not only the females but some males in different races have really odd facial wrinkles and other stuff on their face I would prefer a little more control over our characters face in skyrim

Just http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=4141&navtag=file/images.php?id=4141&tab=3 and some mod that enables any race to use any face paint.

Skyrim is a savage place where many struggles to even survive. Beauty is not really a high priority, and people are probably not bathing often. If the land Skyrim was real, Im willing to bet that mos people there would look average at best by today's standard.

But to your point, no, there is no ageing as such, you have your 'complexion' which has different age faces, but that's all.

They looked like the same girl only older. The breton looked about 5 years older than the nord, and the Imperial 10 years older... or having done a lot of meth. I had every detail the same... except the wrinkles that are built in... and height of course. Otherwise they looked like the same girl, just photos taken at different ages.

I took a look at Breton's female texture, and by Azura there are wrinkles in the base texture, meaning that even with no complexion at all wrinkles are guaranteed in Bretons. It may not be obvious, but it's there (to be more precisen around the laugh lines and lips)

And also there on Imperials, but not on nord females. So you can never make an Imperial or Breton that looks as young as a you can a nord. On Nord females complexion does control wrinkles, because there are none underneath. However on the others you are just adding 'more' wrinkles, you can not remove them all.
