Why is there an owned bed in my house in Whiterun? : V

First I thought it was there for my companion, so I told him to sleep in it, but he wouldn't.

So what is the extra bed I can't use for?

Lydia uses it.. or at least she does in my save. I'm not married to her.

Its Lydias, though I have yet to see her sleep in it. If you dismiss her once you've bought the house thats where she lives.

how did you get a house? i have received permission to buy property, but have yet to learn to purchase land

Ah, okay.

But lydia died, so I guess, now it's just an empty unused room :/
