Why they have to die ?

Post » Fri Dec 24, 2010 2:56 am

Hello,

I would like that any enemy who is shot at his limbs (arms, legs) would not die but try to crawl away or just lie there and insulting the player or shouting for help. He could only be released when shooting in the head or torso.
I know its very brutal but still it would fit in a world like the Fallout Universe.....

What do you think ??

well I can agree that the effects of limb damage should be noticeable, the rest tho sounds a bit to much fiddly for so little, I have a sneaky feeling the engine wouldn′t work well wit it either, the animations would most likely look out of place.

Do you mean after one shot to a limb, or after having a limb crippled/dismembered from multiple shots? In the former case, one shot with most weapons would probably be enough to agitate someone, another shot might subdue them, a third would incapacitate them, and beyond that it's just a matter of either bleeding out or being hit again and killed. This would also change based on the type of weapon of course (a weak pistol might require a few more shots, and a strong rifle would require less)...

I certainly don't think that anyone who's had a limb shot off should be alive for too long thereafter, and they probably wouldn't be conscious at any rate, especially in Fallout's setting where medical supplies and knowledge are hard to come by.

I just bothers me that if I shoot at someones legs or arms that nps is dead ! It would be cool if some little animation or shouting would occur. This could of course like you suggest stop after a minute or so. I did not mean they would lie there shouting for the rest of the game!!!! It would not have to be very realistic, it would just be nice if it hat an impact crippling both legs or arms or all together, but they just die......

Dude, just admit that you wanna inflict torture!
Cripple the limbs, stim him back to full health, then watch the raider crawl into a nest of radscorpions, right? Or maybe carve him up with a combat knife as he screams for death?

lol, I wanted this around May...
Shooting or cutting someones arm off after you cripple it can keep them from using two-handed large weapons, but still use an assualt rifle and shotguns with terrible accuracy and one handed weapons with regular accuracy, while shooting a leg off would mostly stop movement and make them easier targets...
Guess we will have to wait until the next Fallout game =/

for about 5 seconds...then they bleed to death, there some major arteries in the limbs.

Sorry but your not getting my point ! Its not about torturing somebody, but how reasonable is it that someone who is shot in the arms or legs instantaneously dies ????

Don't quote me on this but I think fallout 2 or 1 lol had the ending where the overseer was killed but managed to crawl writhing in pain. I like that suffering >:D

You can to an extent by crippling their limbs so they walk with a limp or something similar. But I don't know how to stop them being aggressive after doing that

I remember shooting some raiders in the leg or arm and not dying. They limp off or run holding their arm in trying to run away....I usualy shoot them again.

I think you see it less as you level up because you basicly get your skills at shooting so good that rather then just wound a target you either head shot them or blow a limb clean off. Go back to the beginning of the game and try shooting a leg or arm....they also drop their weapon if you criple their arm.

If you blow a limb off a human I can't really see what benefit seeing them screaming and rolling on the floor for the 5 seconds it takes for them to bleed out while you wait to loot the corpse. Just like watching the head "pop" it would get old quick.

Blowing off a leg or arm Fallout style would in real life likely cause immediate and severe hypovolemic shock due to extreme blood loss. So, you can RP that they are 'alive' but just dying from shock. Of course, the real reason is that the engine doesn't like it.

Im lost....you already know NPC's get crippled when shot in the limbs..they dont always instantly die, the most least likely they would die is if you shoot them in the head, they just soak up bullets like sin. the game has it fine already, shoot them in the limbs its crippled, shoot them again it breaks off or bleeds out, as real as it needs to be.

Well you can cripple limbs. Someone that actually loses an arm or a leg is just going to go down real quick anyway, so the current system is fine.

I just hope that the NPCs react somewhat realistically when they loose a limb. They should be crippled and move more slowly if shot in the legs. I didn't have a problem with how Fallout3 worked, hoping NV does even better.

If you want to do something so sadistic, why don't you just go and play that game 'Manhunt'. I hear thats pretty gory. I found it enough to just cripple them. Is Sadism really necc in this game?

I agree, it is a bit odd to see enemies get their leg shot off and they insta-die. I'd rather they try to crawl away, or, for instance, if their arm was shot off, they'd curl up nearby or, if inside, in a corner, and beg for mercy. The player could then either execute the downed enemy, or they could use their medical know-how (only if they have a 50 in medicine or higher) and patch up the enemy, resulting in good karma, good rep towards whatever faction they belong to, or in the case of, say, Raiders, who I believe belong to no faction, might give you valuable supplies, knowledge (of enemy bases, new areas, activate a special encounter, location of a supply cache, ect). Just a thought.

Regarding the animations, it wouldn't be that hard. Use the same type of animation liberty prime used in Fallout 3: Broken Steel as he crawled away after the effects of the orbital strike for legs (the npc might kick their good leg to help them), and the ''relaxing'' pose used by npcs when they sit on the ground (legs stretched out a bit, arm up on one knee) for the enemies who had an arm blown off. Then just have them scream a lot and cradle their bad arm with their good one.

That's because you crippled their limbs, which is not a lethal effect but gives them certain penalties, such as reduced movement if you cripple the legs, of course, this applies to both the player and enemies.

Though, as has been said, it wouldn't really be realistic if enemies couldn't die from getting hit in the limbs either, if they didn't get medical help quickly, they'd likely die from blood loss soon. Realistically speaking, it wouldn't be an instant death, of course, but I'm not sure if the game could accurately handle the effects that losing and arm or a leg would have on a person, so it will probably work more or less the same way as in the game.
