Why wasn't spellmaking a skill to begin with?

Post » Sun Aug 05, 2012 11:16 am

They could have done what they did with enchanting.but with some major differences like being able to mix more then two spell effects in one spell.or with the right perks make spells stonger then those you find or last longer.for what ever reason beth decided to remove spellmaking I hope they bring it back as a major skill to add even more customazition to it.

Lack of time,
Too overpowered in Oblivion,
Laziness,
Choosing to make the game simpler.

One or more of those things.

Frankly, even that would create a greatly limited spellmaking system, people would still endlessly complain how they are "dumbing down the game" and overall it wouldn't add much but more possible problems...

Ive never played Oblivion before and my friend told me about spell making. Tbh it would have made being a mage a tad more interesting, ive already given on my mage - deleted the account.

Spellmaking would have made me think twice.

Oh people will always complain if it's not this it'll be about something else.I sometimes wonder how they even enjoy playing this game.

Bethesda really needs to see how they can refine a piece of the game instead of gutting it out. There must have been a reason why they didn't include such a huge feature other then being lazy. Is there any interview indicating the reasoning behind taking spell creation away?

Maybe if we had attributes and some general perks that tied spell creation to intelligence and willpower that would be great that would allow more levels of power for what you want for your current character build.

I do think that spell creation should be a part of TES magic regardless.

I hated attributes in oblivion I could only raise my magicka, health and stamina so far.in skyrim we can keep increasing health.stamina, and magicka.untill we hit 81 and by that time if you only pick magicka like I do then you'll have like 800 and can even go past 1000 if you have the right equipment.

Oblivions system was abhorrent yes but http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:Attributes is great and you allocate them where you want when you level up similar to the skills in Fallout.

How is that any different than using skills, like in Oblivion?

finally someone else has the same idea as me spellmaking could return as a skill and still allow you to create your own spells but you would have to get really good at it before you can make the incredible spells.

Hahahah freaking] daggerfall I couldn't even get out of the starting dungeon and it was to tedious to start up every time I hope they make easier to start the game instead of that dosbox.to bad I really want to play daggerfall and arena.

I don't get it, I can understand why some people think alchemy+enchanting+smithing is op, but not Spell making. How can it is OP when you decide the potency of the spell?

And even if you create a 100 damage for 3 second fire ball it cost massive magicka an altmer with mage birthsign with 100 intelligence can only have 300 or so magicka in Oblivion while a 300 damage fire ball cost around 200 magicka.

And even then at level 25 it does not one hit a gloom wraith.

You could still have the precious perks but have attributes and some general perks that fit with the attributes. I think both working together would be better and allow more diverse characters.

I was referring to the leveling not the game itself...

I think they were trying to shake up magic a little - perhaps spellmaking was due for a rest? It's been in the game since Arena, after all.
I'd prefer to see the spell combinations from Gamejam added, as opposed to the 'traditional' spellmaking. It would really make those dual-casting perks valuable, and add a new level of excitement to the magic system.

Shake up magic a little? I think you mean gutted and water down that is what happened we lost a lot of spells and spell creation in favor of a few new effects and pretty particle effects. A series improves features not removes them entirely.

I say they rushed the game so they cut things from it and that was that. The spells in Oblivion or Morrowind for that matter was only really powerful if you made them that way because you create the spells yourself.
