Why do word processors constantly re-adjust your work? I wan

It ticks me off that in word or pages when typing documents up in word and if something isn't quite right my layout turns to s*** and then im on a hunt in finding the problem.

I understand that this can be helpful with certain documents/formats, but when I am creating my own type of document I want the information to go where ever i want regardless of what word/pages think is appropriate. All I really want to worry about is grid lines. I know what looks good for my document and I don't want ANY piece of software telling me what i can and cannot do when it comes to creative writing.

Lately i have started editing alot of my work in preview (OS X) because I can annotate wherever I want and my format does not get bent out of shape.

So thats the end of my rant, and if anyone has any solutions please throw them my way ; )

Thanks!

Because word processors are predominantly used by people that want to type and have their stuff look presentable with minimal effort?

I'm pretty sure in word you can make a free floating textbox or whatever it is called.

And what about an option for those who want to put in more effort? I would just like an option where i can type wherever i want.

Use notepad instead if you don't want formatting.

I still would like the advanced options that Word can give you.

I'm not sure why my request is so difficult to comprehend, many real life friends have agreed with me that this option would be nice to have in Word. Its just an optional extra that you can turn on or off, its as simple as that. I doubt it would be that hard but I could be sorely mistaken.
