Widest shield in the game?

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 4:31 am

What is the widest shield in the game? I thought it was Dwemer (it looks sorta like Spellbreaker in Oblivion), but after I take a good look at one in Dwemer Museum, it's actually a bit smaller than Steel!

I want to take advantage of that "arrow at shield = no damage" perk

Spellbreaker and Targe of the Blooded are my fav's.

Shield charge is the most underrated and potentially OP'd skill in the entire game.

This game needs more shields. I want to grab the Targe of the Blooded, but I want to get to a higher level so it isn't worthless later.

I just took a look at Ysgramor's Shield (Google) and it appears to be around the size of Steel Shield? I was hoping for a tower shield variant like Imperial Shield and Ebony Shield, but I think I'll have to see it hands-on to get the feel.

Thanks for the help folks!

Oh snap, kept seeing 'wildest' instead of 'widest'.

Pretty sure Ysgramor's is the widest, banded iron would probably be close though.

What about spellbreaker? Is Ysgramor's Shield bigger than that?

Best way to block arrows is with aiming.

The size of the shield is irrelevant, your crosshair has to be within a fairly narrow cone of the incoming arrow - that's the deciding factor. Make sure you're aiming at the guy shooting at you and you won't go wrong

I have an invisible shield from my modding gone awry and that shield still deflects arrows even though it has no hitbox at all

Imperial heavy looks the best for blocking arrows towards the knee area

Perhaps I'm just nitpicking, but is there anything to suggest the largest shield visually may not have the largest hitbox? I'm going to go ahead and assume the actual hitbox of a shield does not line up perfectly with the visual image of the shield for some (if not all) shields, so I don't know how relevant the apparent visual size of the shield is for such considerations.

Sort of related to Ryuujin's post, but I'm wondering more generally I suppose (not just for arrow blocks).
