Wii U, HD TV or LaptopPC?

Post » Mon Sep 17, 2012 10:13 pm

So, with Christmas quickly approaching, I am having a great amount of difficulty deciding what to do. I can either buy a Wii U (I love the look of ZombiU), a new HD TV that I desperately need (my current one in my room has like some colour distortion and part of the screen is permanently tinted pink) or a new laptop/desktop PC (I want to be able to run Guild Wars 2 and a few more basic PC games such as Minecraft). What do people here recommend?

By the way, I only have enough for one, so don't suggest both!

Show me what laptop, and what HDTV. But unless you're getting a $1,000 laptop then you won't be able to play those games AT ALL, my netbook can run Morrowind barely on minimum settings for reference.

If the TV is 1080p or 720p I'd get it if I were you, but a laptop... Well, I don't think you have enough experience to know what the laptop can do, but I say the TV. But I, personally, would go with the laptop if I didn't have it already.

I know what a laptop is capable of running and I wouldn't buy one unless it could run Guild Wars 2, most of which can't and hence I said laptop/PC. My current TV for my bedroom isn't full HD, just HD Ready and only does 720P. Whilst it isn't awful either, there is a bit of colour distortion in the top left whereby you get a slightly pink tint.

HDTV.

With a WiiU you need to dish out extra for games. Same with a laptop. Just supplement what you have rather than create more sinks.

Well, I don't know you, but i'd go for the laptop as in the end you can do with it everything the TV can do and more. But when I said tell me about the TV I mean't about the one you were going to buy.

Not necessarily. There are plenty of good free games. And I doubt the laptop has a disk drive.

Unless the number, size, and quality of free games outweigh his current gaming library, it's a sink.

Edit: and if he's only buying it for one or two games, it's a waste of money in my opinion. I certainly wouldnt, if that was my only reason. However, there are plenty of reasons to have a laptop, so if those are met, the laptop is better.

From a pure economic gaming perspective, HDTV.

That's kind of a broad generalization considering we have no idea what laptops are being considered. Most normal sized laptops (not netbooks or ultrabooks) have one . . .

The tv. Use it as a base for future purchases. Run a Wii U or a pc through it in future.

Dovah... You seem to have no clue what you are talking about...

Where the heck would he find an HDTV that is not AT LEAST 720p these days? This is not 2004.

A laptop without a CD drive? Only ultra slim laptops do not come with CD drives usually, and those are not for gaming in the first place.

Depends. What would you be using more for now? That's how I choose things. If find you use a laptop/PC more already and would like to upgrade, get that. If you think you'd get more usage out of an HDTV, buy that. If you think you'd get more use out of a Wii U, buy that. Just think about what you probably would be using more.

TV svcks, Wii U needs a good TV, so that leaves the laptop as my recommendation.

I don't have a model as to what I am buying yet, but something around the £400 GBP mark so nothing fancy. As for a TV svcking, that makes no sense as everything needs a TV. I already own a laptop, but might just get an upgrade as newer models have much better graphics cards. Don't know though...

Desktop PC, and choose a monitor for it that has an HDMI-in port (so you can use it as an HDTV for the WiiU when you get it.)

But, when it comes to Wii U, I'd want a nice large display like 40" and for computers I like around 15" - 20" because I sit closer.

A gaming laptop would cost about the same as a desktop + decent sized monitor with a TV tuner in it.

Edit: Oh you want both, huh? Personally I would compromise and get a size that is good for both...

Just going to go get a TV. Simple, cause I don't want a small ass tv or a big ass monitor.

This, for sure. Then you can get an HDTV and buy the WiiU when the holiday rush is over.
