Wikipedia Blackout

I think it's an extremely silly and childish way of protesting.

They're only hurting the people who use their site.

Been hearing about it since this morning. Still can't determine if it's going to help or not. Seems rather silly for them to "blackout". Though I do see their reasoning, I'm just not so sure it's going to matter.

I don't think it's meant to help anything, but as a show of force to the world. Even if SOPA, PIPA, or something like it is put in place people will find a way to defy it. We control the internet and not those pompus self-righteous idiots in office *leaving my comment at that*.

If my site was more important I might join Wiki, but it's not so no reason to take it down.

Not as a show of force, but as a "what-if" example. Because if SOPA were to pass, that is what WILL happen. The only difference is that it will be forced and not voluntary.

It is, because it's going to force people to notice it.

It's an extremely effective way of protesting. Fact is that MANY people use sites like Reddit and Wikipedia. If you take those sites down, even for just one day, and replace them with information about the issue, you've just brought the issue to the forefront of the user's mind.
