Will class affect story? Would you like it to?

The classes in the Elder Scrolls online offer a "template" or "starting off point" from which you build your character, that is, mechanically. They affect, to a degree, what skills will be open to you and how you should face enemies. My question is: Will they offer the same "starting off point" for your story?

Lets not forget that MMORPG includes the words "role playing." Elder Scrolls online looks to be developing an immersive and engaging story. For me, personally, one of the things that helps me enjoy a story in a video game is when the version of the story I see is in some ways unique. Now I'm not asking for 10,000 different versions of the main quest. I'd just like the choices I make, including seemingly mechanical ones, to have some type of effect on the world and my place in it.

Guild Wars 2 had something like this with their "personal story" system. Players' class choice, among a number of other things, affected the types of quests they completed while leveling. Now, in my opinion, the Guild Wars 2 story wasn't particularly engaging or unique. But the idea behind it was nice.

Can Elder Scrolls online take this idea and improve upon it? For example, will my Dragon Knight have some ties to the Akaviri Dragonguard that served the Reman Empire? Will my sorcerer have to deal with locals in Skyrim who are distrustful of magic? Will my Night Blade be looked on with suspicion by more traditional warrior types or will he have quests that require more stealth and subtlety? Will my Templar have some expectations to serve the divines and heal the populace?

These sorts of subtle tweeks to my personal story would help me feel like my choices matter. They would turn class choice into something that felt like an extension of my role playing, rather than a purely mechanical decision. I'm not saying the developers should make four entirely different versions of the story--we're all going to fight Molag Bal and Manimarco--but a few small changes here and there can go a long way.

What do you think?
