Will crysis 2 use steam on PC and ps3?

Post » Mon Jul 19, 2010 3:50 pm

I hope not, because steam is a buggy drm app. It's just not good. I just want to know. I know some of you just love steam to death, but it's just a drm app to me that make me unable to play the game. I like sp and want to play it offline with out steam pulling an epic fail on me for the 20th time.

Steam is a great tool for hundreds of thousands, if not millions of users. Personally, I have never experienced any kind of error or DRM bug when downloading a game or patch.

Whether Crysis 2 will be available on Steam is yet to be disclosed, as and when we are able to confirm or deny this, you will hear it here first!

25 million people disagree with you OP :)

Never heard of Steam being available on PS3 either.

I'll be getting C2 on Steam fo-sho! Hate DVD's.

I know the "25 million people" thing. I glad it works good for them and if they want to buy it on steam then fine. I just want to buy a disk and install it with out need internet working at the time.

Thank you for your reply. My internet is not the best about working so steam is just not good for users with bad internet. Offline mode seems to be a beta at best, but it may get fixed or it may not. I wish my internet worked near 100% of the time like it should.

That wasn't how you worded your post. You said you hope it's not on Steam because you don't like it. You didn't say you hope it's also available on disc because you don't like Steam. :)

It might be on steam, but I don't think it will matter. It is already available from the EA store and other retailers, so you don't HAVE to get it on steam. If you like steam, buy it on steam if you want. If you don't like steam, get it somewhere else.

I wouldn't call steam a buggy DRM app. I would call steam a very well-functioning combination of DRM and social networking. I lose steam connection randomly at least once a day for a few minutes, but it never hurts my ability to play anything.

Is this one of those things where Burglars want stricter gun control laws for occupational safety?

I'm all for Steam, anything that makes it harder to crack and contributes to the continuation of production of games for my PC.

I don't want it to be steam only, but I have no problems if it's on steam, or even steam required. If you have to have a steam account to use it, you still install it off the CD, and have no issues.

I'm all for steam, since I can get all my patches easily, join games my friends are in easily, and check everything in one place.

Frankly, I'd prefer steam to having to deal w/ PB.

Ah, that may be where the confusion is coming from. Didn't realise you were meaning Steam *exclusive*.

I could almost guarantee that the PC version would NOT be Steam exclusive. In fact, i don't think even Valve has any Steam exclusive games and they're the ones that own Steam. I'd be quite surprised if there were *any* Steam exclusive games and i'm certain Crytek wouldn't be the first to try that out.

To reiterate, you can be sure that Crysis 2 will be available on PC via DVD.

It was like 2am when I typed the op and I should have waited to post. All I am asking is when you buy the disk it does not need steam to run like, mw2, R.U.S.E, black ops, civ5 and there are more, but I can't think of them right now. If the game is on the steam store fine, but if I go to best buy and buy the disk then I should not have to use steam to play the game at all.

P.S On the cod forums they all seem to love steam and thats fine, but they think it can do no wrong. I tryed to say it could mess up and they just call me a lier. If steam did work right when I would be fine with it. I would still feal bad for the ones it does not.

One more thing: The PS3 will get steam works about when crysis 2 comes out. So they could make it tied to steam on the PS3 too and that would likely be bad for me, but maybe they will fix offline mode some more by then. I am not saying I am geting on the PS3, but I know some will so this thread could help them too.

Which isnt out yet. I doubt Crytek would make anything Steam *exclusive*

Having to have a Steam account to play at all like Modern Warfare 2 will also absolutely kill this game for me.

I personally haven't had any of these major earthshattering steam problems everyone else seems to have, but since talon95 has showed himself to be reasonably levelheaded, I guess I can buy it.

However, I personally wouldn't mind having VAC secured servers, since PB can be an utter nightmare for 64 bit OSes.

I don't know, I just personally love steam, since it works well for me. I can imagine if it wasn't working it could turn into an utter nightmare though.

Maybe some games require active verification through steam to play, if that was the case, I would hope Crysis 2 didn't rely on such a feature.

But since no Steam game I have has any trouble running when steam is offline, again, I just don't know the issues.

It's already for sale on the EA store!!
Stop wishing that millions of people can't use a certain service because YOU don't like it!
Stop whining and buy the game on Amazon or Gamestop or something.

I hate log in type drm. I just lost my pass for SC2. Now I have to hope my e-mail works. I like SC2, but hate the drm that it uses. I lose passwords alot, because I know useing the same one for every thing is just asking for spy-ware to take it.

P.S I hope we get a yes or a no soon for if it will use steam for drm.

Notice that when the steam servers are down, you cannot access your game. It seems as though the more I use Steam, the more difficulties I encounter. In my honest opinion, it should be left out and only used to the players who choose to purhase Crysis 2 from Steam.

What? You appear to be mistaken, this only happens with multiplayer games that use steam's servers. And even then there's still third-party dedicated servers.

Crysis 2 has a pretty high chance to be on steam, considering it has official threads made by Crytek employees pinned in their forums, constantly noting the progress of news.

This is me too and I think you are right. Steam looks like something just asking to be hacked.

To: firepowzer Steam is good for some, but NOT all. You seem like the type that would say steam can't do no wrong, but it can and it does do wrong alot for me. I wanted to buy civ 5 alot, but steam just does not seem up to it. The offline mode is like a pre-beta. I have it set to auto log in, but it fails me alot on that and runing when my internet is dead. You will likely say " It's not steam.." It has an offline mode and it should work with NO internet, but alot of times this is not so. I have talked to alot of steam "lovers" and they just tell me get a new ISP. It's better then it used to be but it's will die at lest one time a week. I would have to move to get better internet.

P.S I have tryed on the cod forums, but they just love steam only to death and some how think "it's the only way to go with PC games".

Yeah, steam tends to have a lot of issues, but it does work for some people. Again, I have no issue with Crysis 2 being released on Steam, if that's your pile of beans, I couldn't care. All I care about is not having Steam mandatory to play Crysis 2. I don't have internet 24/7, Steam goes down sometimes, Steam accounts get hacked a lot, and sometimes the game files become corrupted and that is a huge inconvenience.

Steam is great for many, not for all. The more options the better. Just pressure Evenbalance into making 64bit software. ;)

Thats what I think too and I don't seem to have internet 24/7 like you do.
You make alot more sence then the PC cod forums. They all love steam to death and think you must be stupid not to use it. I think I could write the book on why steam can be bad and it should not be forced on any one to play a game.
