Will we be disapointed?

I can’t help but be pessimistic about games these days. I have been let down time and time again. And the worst part is the fact that I throw 60 dollars at a product that promised me everything under the sun only to feel like I got ripped off and the company is running to the bank with my money.

I mean I can talk about SWTOR for three days to detail how angry I was about the end result of the game. I paid 60 dollars to get a cheap World of Warcraft imitation. I can say the same for Diablo 3, TERA, and Guild Wars. Just one disappointment after another It seems like the quality and pride of building games as diminished over the years. I remember back when I was 15-17 playing games like Age of Empires or Asherons Call I never felt for a second that paying 50 dollars for this game was overpriced and i have a hell of a lot more money now than i did then.. And to make things even better I had a quality games that I enjoyed for years!!!!

It seems now that games are being controlled by some evil lobbyist group run by the magical Carebears! It’s dumbed down; at best water downed from the glory and self-pride you felt in games before. I can only hope that with ESO I can truly see a quality game and not another upset and another 60 dollars down the drain.

It is basically because game developers forgot that to make a fun game there MUST be consequences if you fail in the game, and not make everything a win/win...Games are just way to easy now days, simple as that and when its too easy boredom sets in very quickly because there is no feeling of accomplishment when you actually do win, instead its just...ok so I won that part, now what? and pretty soon there is no more to now what part....instead its just over and you need a new game to get that enjoyable feeling of accomplishment again

Not even brother. A lot of times beta testers end up being these SUPER fan boy players. Best way to explain it is like compareing it when you fall in love with some chick or dude. You fail to notice their flaws because you are blinded. All these failed ass games had betas. All of them had the same hype but when the rubber met the road they fell short and all your left with is. Who, what, when, where and why? And 60 dollars short

there's some truth in your words but:

I've played SWTOR for 3 days in beta and knew it was crap, so I left it out.
I've played TERA for a beta weekend and knew it was crap but worth playing it up to max level, so I finished after reaching the level cap.
I've played Aion for a week in beta and knew it was a great game, so I played it for 3 years (until it finally mutated into something very ugly).

I'll do it the bloody same way with ESO, if I don't like it in beta there will be no chance for ZOS to get hold of my money.

I advise anyone to do the same and try any new MMO before paying!

I wont be disappointed because I no longer fall under the hype train. I'll purchase the game with no expectations and either like it or not. If it doesn't appeal to me it will merely become a distant memory, I don't intend on dwelling on it. If it does appeal to me I will enjoy it for what it is, a game.

The new norm is called 'farmville' approach. The game has to be accessible to the widest player base. This kind of short term / profit thinking have destroyed the games OP mentioned. Where as other games like EVE that didn't chase every single dollar is still in the market and doing pretty well.

I would have to agree with the OP x100.

To me, it seemed this game was on path to maybe something great, but the more they deviate from the original course I fear they are steering this ship into the rocks. I am now very hesitant about this title and have moved on to other promising hopefuls. I will still keep a half open eye on this, but I'm now doubtful anything good will come from this other than a month or two of maybe a spoonful of enjoyment.
