Will ESO have a community?

Post » Wed Jun 05, 2013 11:10 am

I am wondering, will ESO have a community vibe to it, or will it be so instanced off, there will be no sense of community. I liked in games like UO, vanilla/BC WoW, EQ that you could stand in a major city, interact with players and feel like you are part of a larger community.

I do believe that with all the RP stuff they are putting in that you should not worry too much!

Apparently after playing longer time, the tech will recognize your preferences and put you in environment with the same people again and again so eventually you will recognize them. But the real pillar of community will be your guild, as always have been in any mmo

Yes, that's how it's supposed to work here. But, yea, you won't have a "server community".

Considering the ability to be part of multiple guilds at once I feel that if the "server" community isn't there that the guild communities you are involved with will.

I think this game will have a better community than that of current MMOs. Keep in mind a huge factor in why those games had a friendly and talkative community was in part because it was such a new and uncommon thing. Nowadays there are countless games with an online communication feature it has become the norm and when things become the norm it brings about unwanted behaviors because people put less thought into what they are going to say or how they are going to act.

I think it will be the opposite. There will be a general community but the sense of loyalty to faction or clan will be weak. I feel this way because they are actively encouraging people to create alts across factions and cross alliance guilds/friends lists.

When you look back at daoc they did everything they could to keep cross faction communication to a minimum. It Seems Matt has reassessed his decisions from back then and gone the "Can't Beat'em : Join'em" route. I will have to see how it works out but since I am guildless yet again anyway I am not putting much faith in guild pride and deep local community at this point. I have a feeling the entire community will end up resembling what we have all grown to know and love as General Chat (Barrens Chat) :/

Community's what the player makes of it. That said, seems like they're trying to make it socially connected! And let's face it, the way races are you'll be hopping faction too. Very few people will be die hard faction loyalists.

Give it the first 30 days then see how many will stay. I don't plan of joining any guilds until 30 days are up been in way to many only to see them die in the first month.

I believe you will have a huge sense of community with your guild and other alliance guilds that are apart of your Cyrodiil campaign (around 700 people)

I'm not sure if the guild community will be as good as it is in some other games because you can join multiple guilds

It is a vast open world, not a small instanced world.

I just hope there are places in the cities set up for us to go in and gamble, see plays, and have mini games set up at booths and tables. Maybe an arena to watch people fight beasts.

Im sure it will work similiar to how they did it in GW2, you can be part of many but you choose one to represent at a time (show their guild emblem) you would also only gain the guild bonuses from the one you are representing. for the most part it came down to you had a main guild.

/agree

However, and this is just my point of view, but I hate the fact that one character can join more than one player made guild. I believe in being loyal to one guild. This makes it hard to count on a guild to do events when they have other guilds to worry about doing stuff with as well.

From what I understand each alliance area is divided into regions and those into zones. As you move from Zone to Zone you may/will be sharded to keep the zone population at a point good for server performance. The way they explain it only Cyrodiil is using the old Server type community via established Campaigns. And how long will a campaign last before we see a complete overhaul of community for a reset?

Now with your guild being a high priority for placement on shards and in Campaigns it will be interesting to see what happens. Will the mega guilds with 500+ members end up mostly playing with themselves in the world?

Other things I wonder is if being on a different faction within the same guild PREVENTS you from entering into Cyrodiil with your guild mates. There is going to be a lot of tweaking, balancing and exploit chasing with this whole mega server thing. I hope it works cause if it does not Zenimax/gamesas will have flushed several million bucks down the toilet.

I really want this game to work. But every time I get my hopes up for a new mmo they are crushed inside of three months post release.

Simple solution then, create your own guild and tell people they aren't allowed to be in any other guild, or join a guild that has that very rule. It's not like there won't be guilds out there that won't be putting this rule into effect and not wanting people to be apart of other guilds.

I found that in GW2, that did not help much. People just make excuses as to why they can not play, and you just know they are doing something with another guild.
