While it's a great theory it's still only speculation.
If there is no actual proof then it cannot be considered canon.
If it cannot be considered canon then the plot hole remains.
Fans don't write the lore.
The game company does.
We shouldn't have to fill out the holes they left.
It's up to them to give an explanation.

So even though your theory makes a lot of sense I will still consider the place a plot hole.
