Will followers still be able to equip any armor?

Post » Sun May 29, 2011 2:10 am

Will they, or not. I noticed that with most of them, they seem to have armor upgrades. Does that mean we wont be able give them armor to use? That would be kinda silly, if it is armor you would use why wouldn't they want to use it especially if it offers better protection.

IE: Rauls jumpsuit, after a certain point can be upgraded to a armored jumpsuit.

I hope you can't let your companion equip assisted armors just like normal armors.

I mean power armor because I played F3 in French
So I mixed up the 2 of them.

You could teach them to wear power armor, because you already know how to.

It's not technically true that they wear it because you already know how to use power armour. as even before going to do OA I went to the Pitt and Charon could wear the tribal power armour when I got back and I had not recieved the training yet. Does kind of take away from the whole imersion aspect.

But I hope there are some limits to what armour they will or won't be able to wear. And the armoured jumpsuit for raul does look rather sweet but I just hope I can swap it with something that is better DT so I can wear it on one of my character builds. Also I do like to co-ordinate with my follower like both leather armour or both in merc gear, I think it adds to the whole companion thing a little better.

my guess here is that it upgrades their 'base' outfit, like you can make them wear better armor like power armor, but if you take it away or sell it, they'll re-equip their upgraded base outfits

We better be able to give them whatever armor we want to.
I am NOT going to have Veronica walking around in that ugly ass robe, first thing I'm gonna do is get myself a BOS scribe robe and force it upon her.
She will wear her scribe robe with pride!

I remember reading we could take their exclusive items, like Veronica's ventibird blade, so why couldn't we foist armor upon them?

I certainly hope so.I don't want a character like Boone to wear that merc grunt outfit until I get his NCR ranger outfit.

Actually, they'll wear PA even if you don't know how. I killed an outcast patrol once very early, before I had done any of the main quest and had Jericho carry the PA because I was full. Much to my surprise he started wearing it.

I'm wondering if the BoS scribe will upgrade to power armor, that'd be cool.

It would be useful and logical if they could. That said, I'll probably have Raul in his full vaquero outfit (if I take Raul) because it's totally badass.

i hope there will be a system were you have to have them on your team for so long and they will get a higher S.P.E.C.I.A.L (in the comp. wheel) and there will be a certain end. and str. before he can wear a P.A or any other amour for that matter!

Raul is the only companion whose concept art I have seen, it shows his usual clothes, the awesome armored petro-chico suit, and his vaquero costume. Is there somewhere to see the other ones?

It would be very nice if they can equip armors that make sense for them, but most of all I just hope that the NPCs will use Stim Packs if they have them and need to - that more than anything annoyed me about NPC behavior in Fo3, they would simply refuse to save themselves.

I would hope so. I am not against a sub-quest showing a companion how power armor is used. Though some would find it over complicated.

You can view New Vegas'companion wheel http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Companion_wheel. If you notice right under the highlighted command be passive is a picture showing Vault boy with a stimpak inserted into his left arm.

Further http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOqnNrFzymY reveals it is a "Use Stimpak" command. Quoted from the linked video - "If your in combat and you need to give your guy health, you can run right up to him and hit the companion wheel and give him a couple of stimpaks." - I am fairly certain what he means. Is you can use the "Open Inventory" command and give them stimpaks and have them use them by issuing the "Use Stimpak" command. It will still be on you to make sure they stay healed but at least it is more simple.

I am a very immersion oriented player and I hate pausing in combat for any reason including VATS. I would have preferred an automatic use command I could have set at a % of health. As it sounds now, we will have to keep a careful eye on our companions health which can also be seen under the "Use Stimpak" command. Maybe someone will create a notification mod which alerts you to when your companion is badly hurt. I usually don't pay much attention to them during combat like I do the enemy.

I think it's probably something like that. Most likely, armor upgrades for companions is just so you can let them continue wearing their default armor but not be constantly dying in the late game because their equipment is horrible, since some players might want their companions to keep their original theme in-tact without needing to compromise their defense. I hope it's like this, at least, because I'll be VERY dissappointed if I can't let my companions wear armor or clothing other than their default equipment if I so choose. If I give them something else, I want them to be able to wear it.

Is there a way to make them give me their armor so that they are naked? I want my followers to be naked axe-wielding maniacs strung out on psycho.

Anyone know if Raul's Bandito outfit (I actually prefer this to the armored suit) is just concept art or a real in game outfit? I need that for him in my Liberty Valance role play.

all we know for sure is his backstory of being a bandito. So possibly, but not for sure.
