Will Food be more available than in Fallout 3?

Post » Sun Mar 27, 2011 8:45 pm

In Fallout 3 I thought there wasn't enough food, there weren't enough food stores and they were too far apart, I hope that New Vegas has more food in game for hardcoe mode. What do you think?

We can cook and fry our own meals this time, so there will only be the problem of what to hunt for dinner. ^_^

Really? I thought the game was filled with food (that had little to no purpose).

Do you know if we can set our own campfires or do we have to find ones already set?

Fallout 3 was filled with food, but they didn't really serve a purpose since you could heal by sleeping or with stimpaks and radiation isn't even dangerous. Besides, 200 years after the war all the pre-war meals would have been eaten or perished already, I thought that was a tad unrealistic, even though the SCIENCE! explination.

And you can always hunt for food since you encounter a critter every two meter and can kill it for its meat... so I think you're good in New Vegas.

Me too. I mean, it was actually pretty easy in FWE to remain always hydrated and well-fed exactly because there was so much food in almost every place (Super Duper Market? Full of 200 years old food...).

Yeah, pretty much that. Was in the description of the survival skill in a preview.

Relative to the topic of food..

I got the Food Sanitizer from Moira and accidentally sold it to some random merchant.

I wish I still had it, since I'm pretty sure that's the only one in the entire game. I wonder if they'll bring it back in New Vegas for any radiated foods, if there even is a Radiation meter in the game.

I wouldn't worry about it the sanitizer, since you never have to eat anything, just more crap to carry. Im believe both rad meter and radiated foods are in new vegas.

I can't confirm it, but you most likely can set up your own campfire. There may be cases where you would pass by a campfire, and later on begin experiencing hunger with no knowledge of where the next one could be. Since food (and fire) are [likely] so important in hardcoe mode, it's only reasonable to give the player the ability to start campfires wherever so that cases like that don't arise.

Though I'm sure we'll have to have certain ingredients (firewood, accelerants, etc.) in order to start a fire though. I'll be disappointed if we can just conjure forth the powers of hellfire.

I think it would be Ironic Survival skill determins if you survive setting your own campfire or if it goes off like a typical Crankshaft BBQ (Ie it would be safer to use a Fatman warhead to cook)

The game was full of food... There was food everywhere.. Shelves, vending machines, refrigerators, Fallout 3 was over stocked with food. There was so much food in that game that it would be impossible to starve.. On the other hand I don't know how boxed or canned food supposedly lasted 200 years... But that's beside the point. Not enough food?... what game did you play?
Not only that the list of food items was pretty big.. And the food that you can hunt respawns all over the place.. So I doubt there will be any food shortages in FNV.

I'm pretty sure that every little hub I stopped at, whether it be an old little general store, the Super Duper Mart, or anything like that, there was plenty of food to be had. In this case, I hope to have very little food out in the wasteland, and most of the food not be prewar food, because it is 203 years since the bombs fell, and I'm pretty sure the stragglers from before have worked over that food pretty well already.

There should be more food since NV is a better structured city than D.C was.
