Will an offline mode be implemented as well?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 10:33 am

Think about it. it's a good idea. as not everyone can stay online all day and night. and some i'm sure would just like to play offline away from idiots. do you think an offline play feature could be implemented?

No, this is an MMO, not a singleplayer game with multiplayer.

I sincerely doubt it.. they'll focus on the online version first and foremost, and they'll probably limit it to that.

Even though the the difference between the too are minimal... there are not many MMO's that you "have" to play with others to do all the quest and experience everything. An offline mode would work in most.

If you don't want to play with others you probably wont enjoy this game period, on or offline. There will be MMO mechanics that simply wont be enjoyable in any sort of "offline" mode.

Don't worry, Bethesda will still be making the next single player RPG.

What part of massive multiplayer online don't you get? I don't think I have ever heard of an mmo with an offline mods, it just wouldnt work.

If you want to play offline go play Skyrim or wait for TES:6

I've never played an MMO, so tell me; are they filled with 12yr old hecklers and spammers?
I just cant imagine a multiplayer game with civilized, courtious people. Sadly.

Not really. Every action you perform is handled by a server, if they were to create an offline mode then they'd have to ship the server software with the game engine since there is no way they're re-writing the entire engine just to allow you to play without a server.

I'm aware of this. i just don't have the option to play online all day and night. i have a month to month data plan with horrible fees if i go over my limit.

Or they could write an entire story line for just offline.

I'm not trying to be a dike or anything... but you obviously have no idea how much work is involved in creating a video game.

I'll try to explain... I'm making a game. Tomorrow, if everything goes as planned (it rarely does) I'll be able to create the remaining 10-ish props (3d models) for the scene I'm working on. The players will see this scene for about 5 minutes. I've been working on it for 4 days.

They could keep the online and offline characters separate... this would allow the people to experience the quest and story without having to play online.

You don't understand. Everything you do in an MMO is handled by the server, only the rendering is done client-side. If there is no server then you can't do anything.

Yes and what I am saying is if they can add a offline mode, and restrict this too offline characters only... they "could" store the offline data locally on the players PC. All of the game content is going to be stored logically. The server is just going to store all the player data for online players, in which this would need to be changed to so the offline player data is stored locally and not tied to a server. This is not impossible to do.

It'll probably be similar to how it was handled in TOR, if anything.

Most MMO's actually do not have an offline mode. I've actually never played on that includes an offline mode.

MMO, you'll be playing with many players and the game will probably require you to team with other people for many instances anyways.

As stated before, it's an MMO, if you don't like how it plays online you wont like it offline.

But why would they - it's an MMO.

...here's the thing. What you're asking for is kind of like asking "Will there be an FPS mode implemented as well?" about Madden 2012. Of course there won't be a shooter mode made for the football game. It's a football game.

MMO. The "O" stands for Online. It's a core feature of the concept. Yes, it's going to be online. No, it's not going to be offline.

It's not about will they or won't they... it was could they. I don't care either way, as I would just play online... but they "could" do this and a lot of players will be rather upset if they can't play online so they won't get to experience the lore. This would be a way to give those players a way to play.
