Will there be a HideShow Helmet toggle?

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 2:32 pm

After reading about the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1249457-light-armor-perks/ and learning that
Spoiler
you have to wear a full set of light armor, including a helm, in order for most of the perks to take effect,
I couldn't help but wonder if there will be a Hide/Show Helmet toggle in Skyrim. Does anyone know?

Take the helmet off, it's toggled off.

Put the helmet on, it's toggled on.

No there won't be, this is not a fantasy MMO where you can magically make a helmet disappear just cause you don't like it, but retain the stats.

There is a balance of realism and fantasy that makes TES games so great... and a toggle would kill this.

Either way, you read the perks wrong, only one forces you to wear a matching set, the others a mis matched... not to mention the perks are stats that are not needed... so don't wear a helmet no big deal.

Ummm the truth is funny? No there won't be some fancy hide my helmet feature. What crock of poo game gave you the idea it would be in Elder Scrolls?

I think it may be because it's considered trendy in World of Warcraft.

"TIME OUT! - I'm wounded!!!"

"Ok... inventory... food... "

+ 95% health!
"Back to the action!"

A lot of single player RPGs have this option, so it's in no way unique for the MMO genre.

If there was a toggle, you would have the option not to use it. Also, it's a single player game and the toggle would only affect YOUR helm, so it's not like there's going to be a lot of other people running around without helms ruining your sense of immersion or whatever.

Okay. That's not what it says in http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1249457-light-armor-perks/ thread.
I'm not usually a fan of the Hide/Show Helmet toggle, but IF the OP of that thread is correct, then I'll definitely want one. I guess I'll just have to wait for a mod.

Stupid me, thinking it would be okay to ask a simple question without being insulted.

Wouldn't mind a toggle helmet option. Unfortunately "immersion" would be compromised.

Silly.

I would also like to be able to hide my helm. Usually games with a character creator this detailed have the option.

I like to spend time getting my character just right, then I have to hide them underneath a helmet :(

There are consequences for not wearing a helmet.

Maybe you could enchant your things to have more armor rating to make up for not wearing a helmet if thats what you choose to do

People in this threading using the 'Realism' excuse as to why it's a bad idea is just laughable. There is many many things in this game that are not realistic at all, your character doesn't even need to eat some food on a daily basis.

You could easily RP a reason as to why you can toggle your helmet on/off. Heck someone should mod an Illusion spell called Hide Helmet or something.

If you're playing the pc version, it shouldn't be hard to mod this for you.

Oh look, a bunch of snarky people replying to a legitimate question with unhelpful, smart-ass responses. Oh-ho! You dashing internet-rogues, you!

Having the ability to toggle your helmet's visibility is a great way to immerse yourself in the world and story of a game, since you can actually see the face that you worked on for so long in the character creator, instead of just seeing some anonymous buckethead. Having to equip and reequip your helmet manually all the time is a time-consuming and ineffective solution to the problem. So as it stands right now, the only reasonable thing to do is keep your helmet on, since you lose a fair bit of effectiveness by taking it off.

I would quite like to see a toggle modded into the game, but I can make due without, for the time being.
