Will ZeniMax treat Casual Players as Gold?

Post » Fri Mar 15, 2013 12:15 pm

Well, what I mean by this is, will they cater to the player base that is best known for wanting things to be easier, and over simplified?

Whether it caters to their "inconvenient schedule" for work, or if something is too hard for the Casual player to overcome, I want to know what you guys think they will do if casual players cry out for nerfs, and buffs and start being melodramatic about things that take a little brain power.

I know I come off as adamant, and extremely harsh, forgive me, but this is the only way I can express the feelings me and many of my other friends have on this issue.

I mean, if things end up like World of Warcraft, I can't say that I can stick around the relentless abuse Casual Players put on perfectly fine MMO's. The main thing that is removed when this abuse occurs is the Depth from the game starts to be withered and torn away.

This happened in World of Warcraft, and TES-O is susceptible to the same fate if ZeniMax favors one side or the other. I would love a 50/50 EQUALITY but i'm pretty sure this isn't going to happen. I love depth in video games, and its the last thing I want to see taken away from part of my favorite Title.

This is an Optional video, you don't have to watch it, but this guy talks about some of the things Bethesda has done over time with the ES series "Dumbing down for the populous" etc, even though he talks about Bethesda, it doesn't mean ZeniMax won't make the same approach.

easy answer is, there is strength in numbers and the casuals will far out weight the hardcoe. as long they make more money from the casuals they will make sure to keep them happy. a good game company will try their best bo balance both though which is what wow is trying to do now

Ugh, I always hate it when people come up with topics about casuals, hard core gamers, carebears, elitists, spoon feeding, dumbing down and baddies and whatever other terms they like to use to degrade other players with different play styles.

I hope ZOS creates the MMO they plan on creating and keep it as TES as possible. That's all I care about. Make it TES first and an MMO second.

This is a pretty poor initial argument to start, since Skyrim sold far more than any of the previous entries in the series. In addition, I also think it's more fun than Oblivion, despite being "dumbed down". So yes, there will be things that appeal to the casuals you seem to dislike so much, and hopefully also for the hardcoe so the forums aren't filled with complaining 90% of the time. (They might even get it down to 80% of the time.)

Basically, I want an Elder Scrolls game that plays well with others. If they can deliver that, I think we'll be okay.

As a casual who doesn't like easy mode, I take offense to this: don't pin me in with those whiny babies who think everything is too hard. I doubt I'll be a casual for this game, as I'll probably be devoting most of my gaming time to it unlike other MMOs

I agree though, ZOS should stick to what they originally plan to do, and not give in to those that want the game dumbed down. If it's a choice between losing their devoted fans and their whiny MMO crowd, I really hope they choose the devoted TES fans.

Good point, we have to take those people into account that whine on the opposite side (even if I might be one of them).

/agree

I hope unlike Blizzard, ZOS will stay true to the original design of the game, unless something is a NECESSARY change.

cant emphasis that word enough... things that make traveling the world "a click of a button" is NOT necessary, things that make it easier for players to find items, NOT necessary, things that make it easier for people to find groups... again not necessary.

let the players work a little like its real life... "what you see is what you get, who you meet is who you know" etc...

if player a wants a runed ebony dagger, make them find someone within the millions of players online who want to trade it to them for w/e cost... screw an auction house.
if players wanna find a group of adventurer's who will run an instance with them, let them find a group within their guild and public chat channels.

point being, dont make things easier unless its something that is game breaking, IE: A boss is one hitting everyone even when they are blocking the attacks and being healed by 4 players... etc..
