Winamp Closing Down

Post » Thu Nov 21, 2013 6:57 am

After 15 odd years http://www.askvg.com/end-of-an-era-winamp-is-shutting-down-on-december-20-2013/. It seems that it is a player I have used for ever, mainly because it has worked with very few problems and partly because the Bento skin http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/4794/1jwf.jpg at the top of my browser window.

Shame and although it will be available for use for some time to come there will be no downloads or services available after December.

I used that for a long time. Until last couple of years it could handle anything I threw at it. Shame to see it go. Shoutcast Radio/TV was an awesome service.

I used Winamp 2.76 from 2001 for over a decade (one of the plugins I used had issues with newer versions). But nowdays I use foobar2000.

Wow, used to use Winamp, loved it as an alternative to WMP. As the article stated, the later versions of the program just added a bunch of stuff that I did not need or want. I also tend to use Spotify or Pandora or something like that for music now, as I don't download MP3's anymore.

I've been using this for as long as I've played music on my PC, shame. Guess it's time to switch to foobar.

Why would you need to switch? Is the software going to be disabled?

I've always had Winamp. Even got the Pro licence some years back. A damn shame it to close down like that.

foobar is awesome. That thing handles just about any format I throw at it.

So does that mean it will no longer be able to be used, or just no more support?

It will be just like Office 2000, a perfectly functional software package that you no longer have to update all the time.

Now that I think about it, I really don't have to switch at all.

It works perfectly as it is, so unless later on I get windows 9 and it breaks everything I'll be fine.

I've been using Winamp for a really long time now, but I'm not familiar with foobar.. I guess as long as I don't have to switch from Winamp then I won't, but I suppose it's still a consideration if I want something new one day.

I've never felt that attached to any media player though, so I can't say I'm at all sad to see Winamp go.
