Witches and mages are ridiculously overpowered

Every time I face a monster or npc that uses magic it destroys me in like 10 seconds.

What is your difficulty set to? Magic isn't too tough once you are about level four/five. I killed a whole group of mages easily then. Plus, you can get shields with magic resistance.

Bring a magic resist artifact with you, only switch it on when things get tough.

It makes a huge difference. I felt the same way you do until I tried this. Of course, I'm an enchanter, so this is easy - but if you save up some 2k gold you should be able to buy yourself a 15% magic resist shield.

play smart. use everything you can to avoid blasts. use shouts and poisons and your bash skill if your melee to stop casts and get in close.

kiting frost mages can rot in hell though >_<

Their spells do a lot of damage but I carve them like a turkey when I get close.

get up close to them to where they start to use a dagger or sword then you got em, but it's really those mother [censored] CAVE BEARS and ICE TROLLS you should be afraid of. atleast if your on adept difficulty

I get killed by frost mages so often. I am level 20 now but I don't know where I could buy a magic resist shield.

I've found mages are only difficult playing as a mage, since they use a bunch of protection and drain magicka spells.

I think its the reverse. But then again I'm playing as a Breton so I eat enemy casters. 25% spell resistance from the racial, 50% spell absorption from the Atronach stone and then the once a day power that basically gives you spell immunity for 60 seconds and massive magicka regeneration when hit by a spell.

Shoot, if you get 5 perks in the Alteration tree, you get another 30% magic resist passive, so as a Breton that's potentially 55% magic resistance with no active effects needed. Total anti-mage. I haven't made it to late game, but I bet there are a ton of casters at that point, and this would just steamroll them.
