Do wolfs kill other animals? Why is AI so weird

Post » Sun Aug 05, 2012 6:12 am

I shot this wolf from really far away today and when I got to its body there were dad rabbits and foxes everywhere it was crazy! Did the wolf kill them all or were they put there or something?

Also, I had an epic moment today I was shooting from a cliff by Solitude and my last arrow did a slow motion camera thing and hit the dragons face and it died and then it backed up to me on the cliff and I looked like a boss. Also there were like 3 horses helping me kill the dragon from below and some villagers attacked it and died which bothered me because maybe they could have been a part of a quest.

Well anyways, the AI in this game is just really strange sometimes.... why is that???

They definitely chase down and kill rabbits, foxes, and other prey. I have seen them do it from a distance and then killed the wolf (or wolves) and also found the body of the animal(s) they just killed nearby. I've also seen bears and sabrecats do the same thing.

If there is an animal nearby it will hunt it. So yea, they kill other animals.

I often see wolves chasing and killing goats.

The AI's not crazy, just realistic.

So, being chased by some Elk nd kicked to death is realistic? O_o No, the wildlife in Skyrim is anything but realistic and has bothered me since day one. I'm not sure where you live but I live where I see bear, deer and wolves and I assure you, a bear a pack of wolves and dear will not run you down and maul you to death for no apparent reason. Yes, in real life bear and wolves will attack a person but only under extreme conditions. I've never heard of people being chased down and attacked by deer. I'm sure it's happened but not to Skyrim's extent. I'm still waiting for a mod that makes the wildlife less aggressive.

I've never had a deer attack me. And I agree that wolves and bears are more aggressive in Skyrim than in the real world, that I do have a problem with

Today I've literally been chased by deer, elk, wolves and bear. I'm so tempted to go into the CK delete all of the animals.

Deer and Elk will only attack if attacked first, or are controleed by a Spriggan.

It's not entirely unrealistic for Wolves and Bears to attack you.. Granted, it's not very common at all now'n'days, but it still does, and used to be more of a issue a couple centuries back. Deer, not unrealistic either. I'm going out on a limb here, but have you been near a Male Deer during rutting season? I live where there is Elk, and parts of the State Park gets shut down when it's rutting season because male elk have been seen, and people have been attacked. I'm not saying this is why in game, but it happens. Also, Spriggans. They have a spell that makes other animals hostile. Another possiblity you should explore.

I was hunting some deer near a lake. Shot one, and another came over and nuzzled it. My first thought was, 'Aww. I feel kind of bad.' My next thought was, 'svcker!'. Those little details such as predators actually hunting are really cool.

simulated predator prey relationships its done rather crudely they just simply kill there prey item and move along back to there spawn point and if there is any designated prey item in there path they will chase and kill it as well even if they litterally just killed something exactly like it only a moment ago. but even with how poorly its done its still better then the lack of a food chain that was seen in previous games for example deer comfortably running right past ogres mountain lions and wolves and boars rats and minotaurs teaming up with said creatures. what would have been great is if the predators actually ate there kills or if that prooves a little to gruesome for the current consumer base then have them hang around there kills for a while. and had a cooldown before they hunt again.

I've been attacked by goats, deer, and even foxes, but every time that happens, there is a spriggan in the immediate area controlling them. Other than that, only wolves, bears, and saber cats hunt other critters that I've seen.

But they attack EVERYTHING, like they've got rabies. I mean, wolves attacking a sabre cat, or even a bear?! And sometimes I encounter one wolf attacking an elk or a deer. In real life, that'd be a hell of a suicidal wolf. Receiving a hoof to the head can break a skull, and being thrown by the antlers isn't very healthy either. There's a reason why they hunt in very organized packs ... The wildlife in Skyrim is really rabid. And it gets annoying.

And the bears growl that sounds like it's stuck on repeat.
