Wooden Mask dissapointment, Need urgent help....

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 9:41 pm

So hello its my first time posting in the Bethesda elder scrolls forums but i just couldn't find anywhere else to complain about this problem of mine and its frustrating me....

Short story is that i thought that once this "Wooden Mask" was invaluable and i dropped it back on the ground at some point now i can't find it, i know it might be my foolery but that mask is the KEY to completing the shrine which i am slowly heading to, only around 4-5 masks left.

If i was on a computer i would of used a command console but unfortunately im on a PS3 and i can't do that.

What i am asking for is either 1 to 1 help from a Bethesda moderator or a very small patch/update that will help fix this problem because im certain that im not the only one that has experienced this, if it was retainable back from the ground i would be searching the whole world for it but i don't think thats an option because after some changes the items tend to disappear.

I don't know how these forums operate in terms of Moderators responding but i hope i get an answer quick either from a player or moderator because if that Wooden Mask is gone forever i can go berserk all over the place :)

Thank you very much!

Berk.

go back to the shrine? it may re-appear there if it has disappeared in the world. Just a thought.

Moderators can't do anything about this, besides contacting a dev. And even then, I doubt they would/can do anything.

If it's not where you dropped it, it's gone.

The mask is where ever you left it.

Here is a hint. Almost every unique item has a purpose, don't throw them away.

And, yes, you are not the first person to throw out or lose something that is important to a quest. This has been going on since people were throwing out their orders from Casius in Morrowind.

Sounds like the cell reset. That's a game mechanic to prevent save file bloating.

did you actually drop it on the ground? or put it in a chest?

also if you know roughly where it is, you could still find it. I dropped a fox pelt in Dragons'Reach during my first visit, It's still there even now.

Casius gave me orders? No wonder Vvardenfell exploded...

I cant imagine someone getting a unique item with a VERY vague description and NOT try it on thus transporting you to the special room.

Nor throwing it alway after that.

No, you don't deserve the final mask.

There is already a fix for this. It is called start the game over with a new character and don't drop the mask on the ground this time. LOL at developers doing a patch/update because someone dropped some non essential item on the ground and forgot where it was. Maybe they can release a patch for me also since I accidentally made an iron axe when i meant to make an iron mace. It svcks so bad that I either have to choose between playing the entire game with an axe that I didn't want, be forced to buy some more iron ingots and resmith, or hope to find an iron mace somewhere else.

"Wooden Mask", doesn't really seem like an important item at start and especially when ur going around next to carrying capacity you don't consider to keep them, what i meant by resetting items were that once you dropped it somewhere after a while it would disappear and respawn at it's old location, im not talking about boosting MYSELF in the game...

If it is where i left it im willing to search, so are you guys sure that it is where i dropped it?

"Wooden Mask", doesn't really seem like an important item

Where did you find the wooden mask though? Was it maybe next to a note that kind of hinted at what it was for? Did you try it on at that spot? Wait, doesn't it kind of look like some other very import pieces of apparel that you might have found?

None of these things helped you to realize that maybe the mask was important? Sorry, its going to be tough to get any sympathy from anyone here.

"It doesn't seem like a special item"... this is why you failed the quest. It's not the end of the world, or "urgent". You simply will have to finish that quest with another character. There's certainly nothing that a developer can do for you, or "patch" your problem. We call this type of problem "PICNIC" for "Problem In Chair, Not In Computer".

One of the appeals of TES games is that everything has a purpose, even if it isn't implicitly spelled out for you. The wooden mask was in the Labyrinthian and there was a notebook saying it was important- you just didn't see it at the time probably.

This is just one quest out of hundreds you won't be able to complete on this character. Is this the only time you'll ever play this game? I'm sure during your playthrough there have been other things you've been meaning to try out with combat and exploration- this is the perfect opportunity to save these for another character and play through again.

Cell resets don't delete items that players have dropped do they?

Agree, and we call it PEBCAC, problem exists between chair and computer. Beth might consider labeling it a "quest item" so it can't be dropped, but really I'm carrying a few of those around already and find them irritating.

Best advice, if you've never seen one before, store it until you see another or find a use for it.

I did the exact same thing, lucky for me I dropped it in the Labyrinth... Early in the game I did the Mages quest and I picked up that mask with out thinking much of it. Then a few days ago, 210 hours in I grabbed the final (or next to last) mask from a dragon priest and headed to the shrine. I looked all over and was like what no wooden mask? Like you it been so long seen being there I forgot I picked it up and later dropped it. Sure enough as I went thru the Labyrinth I kept finding piles of shields and random items I had left behind on my previous visit, and the very last one was the Mask... I was sooo stoked! Hopefully you can retrace your steps and find it the hard way like I did.

As for thinking a patch is going to help you and your problem, not likely....

Good Luck,

I wish there were more 2/3 quests, and less drums, flutes, masks and pairs of two dozen gems that are LOCKED into your inventory should you accidentally pick them up.

"Find 2 out of 3 missing items".

Atleast your lucky Rarebolarbear, lets see how my luck turns out :), i had no idea about these dragon priests etc back then but when i started collecting i googled it and found out i needed the wooden mask to unlock the last one.

Ayers, it would probabbly be very usefull for marking it a quest item, then my stupidity wouldnt have gotten me here :P

i find it baffling how the game will keep you from dropping a friggin bottle of wine because it might be useful in one quest, yet the useless-looking mask can be thrown wherever.

im finding the inconsistencies and conflicting elements of skyrim to be really, really wrong. its like beth is trolling us. they condition us to accept that even the most pointless of quest items for quests we dont know about or might not ever do or HAVE ALREADY DONE will be stuck in the inventory forever, then put in one item that contradicts the whole system.

you start off thinking "i should be careful about what i drop" then the game says "nah ill make sure you dont drop anything of even the most trivial importance" and then it whispers "svcker..."

Curate thats very true, but come to think of it im guessing the dragon priest masks aren't a quest , so that may be the reason that the wooden mask was droppable. But yes it does contradict, since that mask is VERY important , especially if you are a collector of the dragon priest masks like i am

I kind of agree. I carried the Blade of Hjalti for almost 10 levels until I you tubed how to dot he stupid quest. I stood in an inn for 5 minutes just to get it out of my inventory. Now I have some random dagger that looks exactly like every other dagger of it's type (something with a K and I believe it's elven or dwarven design) that I can't drop. At some point I'll have to figure which random NPC in which random city sends you to find it so I can get it out of my inventory too. At least they made it so quest items don't actually have weight, despite the displayed number....
