A word on werebears, spears, dragon mounts

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 7:22 pm

A lot of you are asking and maybe this will be buried, but I'd rather have one post say it than have us beta testers answer the same questions over and over again.

NONE of these things are in Dawnguard. That is all.

Btw i don't know why are people so in with this "werebaer" thing.

We have werewolves, more than enough...
Werebears, what next? Werechickens? Weregoats? C'mon people....

I'm sort of happy about that, I mean spears would be nice... but I can live without the other two.

Werebears are supposed to have a considerable presence in Skyrim according to lore.

As for other strains of lycanthropy in TES:

Werevultures
Wercrocodiles
Werelions
Weresharks
Wereboars

Are all among the various strains of Lycanthropy mentioned in lore.

They're in the lore and are supposed to be in Skyrim. There's nothing wrong with wanting what is supposed to be there. And I think a Werebear is far more reasonable than a "werechicken".

I wonder if any of those people who were apart of that "Great Werebear thread" are really pissed right now?

Look at it:

Guy goes rogue and says that he's spilling the beans about Werebears in Dawnguard.

The thread goes absolutely insane, with people even posting new character specs for a Werebear playthrough...

Come to find out today that. he. lied his ass off. lmao

The moral here is: Don't believe everything you read on the internet.

It's because before Skyrim, werebears were presented as a unique strain that's especially prominent and problematic....in Skyrim. Before the game, the lore of Oblivion and (moreso) Morrowind told us "HOT DAMN SKYRIM IS CRAWLING WITH WEREBEARS DEY R SCARY."

Fast forward to now, they don't exist at all.
That's why people care. It's not a desire to be a bear specifically, but rather it's what the lore led people to expect.

Same with the Volkihar though, OB told us that they were Frost Masters and stuff but come to find out that they just live in the cold and DO NO SPECIAL FROST STUFF

I haven't stopped giggling like the Joker all morning...

Everyone was positive that they'd be in Dawnguard, and over two weeks as a Beta tester, I'd see the rumors fly around and I'd just bite my tongue, chuckle heartily, and keep reading.

It humored me greatly to know the truth and to not be able to reply. Don't get me wrong, in no way was I ever tempted to break the NDA, but reading all of those threads brought a smile of humor to my face. :D

I just don't like people having their expectations falsely raised, as they then tend to negatively view the product as a whole.

But it's their own fault, or more specifically, the person who lied... but still.

I didnt really find it funny as much as sad.

That someone could spread false information on such a scale, just to make today a letdown for a ton of people.

I could care less about werebears, but I have many friends on the forum who will be dissapointed today because of those lies. It makes me sad, and it hurt not being able to tell my friends in general what was happening.

Thank the nine that wait is over now,

Everybody go enjoy dawnguard :)

Eh, not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. Hopefully, major problems will be ironed out by the time I can play it.

No werebears? Oh no! You mean I can't be a horribly underpowered fuzzball and will instead have to remain a bad MF? I am disappointed. ;)

Well, if you think about it though, if they were as big of a menace as was hinted at, and with 200+ years to fill in, the conclusion could be drawn that those with other forms werewhateverism may have been either hunted to extinction or driven so far underground to where they practically are nonexistant. After all, the only way the werewolves actually still exist is by keeping it a secret, and even then they're being hunted down almost to the point of extinction as well.
