Working Performance Mod

Post » Sat Nov 10, 2012 12:03 am

Hey!

I've read so much about performance mods for Skyrim, but the jungle of offers and old mods only working with old game versions is huge.
Do you know if there's anyone worth installing? I would be interested in your experiences.

Greetings

I have a ton of mods running quite smoothly right now.

The first few months after release were full of "acceleration layer" and "LAA" type mods, but from my understanding those all used fixes that have been included in the official updates, so none of those are useful anymore.

I have used Hialgo - there's a lot of controversy around it - but basically it dynamically adjusts what resolution skyrim is rendering and in my trials with it - it worked well and I kind of liked it.

So - full resolution if your framerate is high - and lower resolution if framerate drops, or you turn around suddenly, or lots of mobs on screen, etc... and it does it pretty fluidly and seamlessly. It's entirely configurable as well.

I don't use it all the time, but I found it useful when I did.

I made a topic on the subject here http://grotto.moddersrealm.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=26e02cbaa76cc82445cc425f852b694c&topic=12769.0

Mods wise, I am just using Vanilla Reduced Textures, dont know if you need it without computer specs

And the 'Interior and Dungeon Fog remover', plus 'Remove Ambient Interior Fog'

Thats about it, the game engine is a lot more optimised these days if you get the game to re-write your ini's, then reducing particles in use.

And the only other help my lowly laptop needs is turning off a lot of the default steam functions taking up your cpu/bandwidth useage in the background while you play .. all detailled in the topic linked.

Hialgoboost could help too, personally even with the new version I find I dont need it with a core 2 duo laptop. I still average above 30 fps with no stutter.

Edit: Oh add to the above: Using USKP to fix a multitude of game bugs is a good contributer to performance too, aswell as cleaning your setup with TES5Edit (including Update.esm, Dawnguard.esm and all your mods plugins that have not been cleaned).
