World War 2 games

Post » Fri Nov 15, 2013 9:19 am

Can anyone suggest some World War 2 games that were really good? I've played Brothers and Arms which was really good, Cod World at War which was also really good, and Medal of Honor Airborne which was quite the disappointment.

So anyone have some suggestions for good World War 2 games?

The Hearts of Iron series (I'd say HOI3, but the last time I did that here I was nearly crucified by HOI2 fans).

Medal of Honor.

Yeah, before you say anything before Medal of Honor was turned into a Battlefield clone it used to be one of Steven Spielberg's babies and they had several MoH games set in WWI before Airborne which were fantastic.

Which one? You know it's a trilogy, right? (Note: I was talking about the original series, so no rip-offs for hand-held machines and such.)

Wow, it's so uncomfortable seeing WoW and "really good" in one sentence. Then try the two original Call of Duty, hopefully you'll be amazed by the experience. Maybe it's a little bit rusty on the outside by now, but it's still golden on the inside.

Oh, come on ... general rule: stick to the classics and stay off the rip-offs. That being said, you can't go wrong with Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, and you better not waste your money on the latest disgraces episodes of the series.

Aside from those that have been already mentioned: the first Battlefied (1942), Return to Castle Wolfenstein, the The Commandos series (beware, HC experience!), Hidden & Dangerous, Company of Heroes, Codename: Panzers Phase One - Two.

War Thunder. Plane combat, so different than the usual, and free.

Ooh...another good one is IL2 Sturmovik (or however it's spelled) Cliffs of Dover. It's not an arcadey flight sim it IS a flight sim. Planes are hella difficult to fly, take-off and land. It's awesome and I'm completely terrible at the game. I should start playing it again.

Damn, I wasn't even aware that there were any good WWII games out there. I ought to consider renting some from Gamefly...

The people who made that made War Thunder. There are 3 flight difficulties and I tried the full flight control one (which I assume is like IL2)... good lord. I could barely take off. I crashed about 5 times and when I finally got into the air I went about 100 meters then barrel rolled into the ground.

Actually, War Thunder is developed by Gaijin, some years ago they made Wings of Prey (called IL-2 Sturmovik Birds of Prey on consoles).

The original Il-2 Sturmovik, and the more recent Cliffs of Dover were made by Maddox Games, division of 1C. Recently, they teamed up with 777 Studios, creators of World War I biplane sim "Rise of Flight" and are now making IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad, coming out next year.
