Worries about day one patch, help!

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 6:35 am

I'm worried about playing skyrim on the first day. Just like everyone else I want to play it as soon as possible.

My story. Lately all these games are getting patch after patch and sometimes it's for serious issues. With skyrim does anyone know what it's for and how big it will be(ps3), day 1 patch. My problem is I will not be picking up Skyrim until Friday morning. Gamestop is too fat and the road that gets there goes straight through the mountains of California, way to dangerous to be driving at night. Anyway my problem is I live in the middle of nowhere right now and we have crap Internet. Our daily limit around 250 MB a day which I only can use about 25 of that. My father law has crappy service and unfortunately its all we have till we find an apartment(very hard to do by the way). So basically when I get home at noon I'll be prompted to download a patch and I probably will not have the Internet usage to do so. Do you think I can still safely play Skyrim until or should I wait until we have free usage at 11 pm, I can download whatever I want at that time. I just need to know if this patch is for any game stoppers and major enough glitches. I hear something about auto save but I'm not sure if the game is not saving or it's just something minor, any clues?

Please answer with any info you have. I really don't want to wait until 11pm to download a patch that will take two hours then start playing at 1am. If its smaller than 25 MB I can download it right when I get home. Usually patched are pretty small but lately these day one patches are like 200 MB.

Anyone else have a similar situation regarding your crappy Internet?

By the way going to get skyrim at midnight is out of the question. Thank you for any help and please ease my worried mind.

I guess it depends on what you are getting skyrim on. If on a console, I'm sure you can just unplug from the Internet and it will run offline. If you are on a pc, I believe because you have to have steam verify it at once online before you get choose offline mode, it will automatically download the patch and ont let you run it without the update, in which case you're knackered.

Just another example of how all pc gamers are treated as dirt by being forced to use this draconian system
