Is it worth taking on conjuration at this point?

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 10:57 pm

I have a level 46 2H warrior and I was thinking that it might be cool to have him be a master conjurer as well. I was just wondering if it would be a waste of perks at this point though. I have zero perks invested in conjuration, and zero attribute points put into magicka. I do have two perks saved, and I was wondering if I started perking and leveling conjuration now, if I could be a master conjurer? Should I just start leveling magicka and perking it?

A bit too late. You're already too powerful a warrior (and too weak a mage) to start conjuring. Novice level spells will only work on very low level enemies (the first novice resurrection spell works only on level 5 and below enemies), or too weak for use in combat (conjure familiar is extremely weak)

Not to mention the magicka consumption. You can try using Fortify Magicka to compensate for some time, but you'll have to put points into magicka (if you prefer not to enchant -80% Conjuration) for quite a few levels. I'd say Conjuration will be viable for combat usage after you hit level 58-62, with each level devoted to Magicka

Thanks for the reply.

I didn't think low level conjuration would be useful right now, but I want to know if I level it to 100, I if would be able to perk it, how much magicka I would need, etc.

Conjuration is really not a skill to start at endgame... it is at it's most powerful early on, but in very late game you will probably face some serious level issues with most spells... besides, leveling at that level is too slow (unless you use cc or that infamous book, or at least travel in circles across Skyrim using all trainers you can find) so it's really not worth it to pursue a new build - you'll get bored of trying to get all those perks very fast.

If you were around the mid 20's I would say go for it but not at Level 46.

UESP Page for http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Conjuration
Conjuration as 15 perks, which requires a total of 16 perk points to fill.
5 of those are magicka cost reduction spells, 1 is Overcharge ability which only improves duration and another 1 is simply to increase casting range, but since you have to get the Novice Conjuration perk, only 6 are optional, meaning to fill out Conjuration skill tree (to achieve maximum capability), you'll need at least 10 perk points, so you'll be able to take full advantage of conjuration at level 56 (assuming that you start now)

First, let's see the Master level magics (the ones you'll really want to make use of, since you'll be at very high level) at Skill Level 100, no perks no cost reduction enchantments

Dead Thrall: 590 Magicka
Frost Atronach: 649 Magicka
Storm Atronach: 708 Magicka

Assuming you get Master Conjuration perk, it's 50% from that. 100 points into Magicka should net you 200 magicka (assuming you don't take any Magicka up until this point), so you'll need to take Master Conjuration perk (4 more levels, total 240 magicka) and magicka cost reduction gears (and a handful of Fortify Magicka potion)

Assuming you want to achieve absolute capability (16 perk points needed), you'll net 260 magicka at level 62, still not that much

It is not too late at all. You can always just go four perks into destruction for one Dremora Lord(expert conjuration to reduce cost) instead of two. One Dremora Lord is still a significant boost to your character's effectiveness in combat.
Dremora Lords don't cost a lot of magicka like thralls either, and are superior to most thralls anyway, other than certain types of dead thralls.
Conjuration can also be leveled fairly quickly by casting bound weapons in combat which gives a lot of exp due to it being based on length rather than cost of the spell.

The max level is like 80 I think anyway, so you could easily pick up Twin Souls eventually too.
