Would a Dunmer ever join the Dark Brotherhood?

Post » Mon Jul 16, 2012 10:50 am

I have a Dunmer mage that I've been playing through Skyrim with right now. He's not entirely good (he's made some pacts with daedra, such as Namira, that I've required him to do some pretty evil or gruesome things). At the same time, given the descrimination he faces in Skyrim, he's been supporting the empire in the crisis. Due to his heritage, he also remembers the Morag Tong and how they hated the Dark Brotherhood.

All these things combined (this assumes a Dunmer would never join the SC, though people could disagree on that) I can't see why a Dunmer character would join the Dark Brotherhood.

Thoughts?

If he was a Morag Tong member or ardent Mephala worshipper, no.

All else, yes.

There's no reason a Dunmer wouldn't join the Dark Brotherhood, unless they're a patriot and/or owes allegence to the Morag Tong. The Dark Brotherhood is often considered a bastardization of the Morag Tong, which is why they hate them. The Morag Tong currently doesn't exist in Tamriel (one of the many casualties of the Red Mountain eruption) but surviving members had vowed to rebuild it at some point in the future. As Mer races can live for hundreds of years (without magical aid,) it's possible you can play as a survivng member of the Morag Tong.

FYI, the long lifespan is confirmed by a dunmer miner over in Darkwater crossing. He claims to have been mining for about 200 years, and seems middle-aged.

Considering that the Dunmer started the Dark Brotherhood, yes.

They started the Morag Tong, the Dark Brotherhood was started by the Night Mother, when she slaughtered her five children in a sacrifice to Sithis. I don't think her race has ever been determined.

Multiple sources talk about multiple night mothers. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if the Dark Brotherhood was actually lead by Mephala who is just playing a game on every single person out there to stupid to realize. Anyway a Dunmer such as you described would not join the Dark Brotherhood. Remove the allegiance or love for the Morag Tong however and it all of a sudden becomes more then possible.

Alternatively you could just roleplay that your Dunmer is smarter then the average person and has figured out that the night mother is Mephala and because of that wishes to join the DB because he can still one of the three Daedra that build Dunmer culture in the first place.

Ahh, I remembered reading a book about it and thought it might have mentioned she was a Dark Elf but I wasn't certain. Her spirit looked like a Dark Elf in Oblivion I think.
