Would Healing Powder From Fallout Work in Real Life?

This question is pretty out there, but what do you think or know?

Herbs can make some types of medicine, so sort of.

There are experimental medicines out now that can grow back full limbs, so I do not see why healing powder could not be possible.

When a hobby-store owner in Cincinnati sliced off his fingertip in 2005 while showing a customer why the motor on his model plane was dangerous, he went to the emergency room without the missing tip. He couldn't find it anywhere. The doctor bandaged the wound and recommended a skin graft to cover the top of his right-middle stub for cosmetic purposes, since nothing could be done to rebuild the finger.

Months later, he had regrown it, tissue, nerves, skin, fingernail and all.

This particular hobbyist happened to have a brother in the tissue-regeneration business, who told him to forego the skin graft and instead apply a powdered extract taken from pig's bladder to the raw finger tip. The extract, called extracellular matrix, lays the framework that cells use to generate any given body part. It's like a cellular scaffolding, and all animals have it. It holds the signals that direct cells to divide, differentiate and build themselves into a specific form.

Extracellular matrix is a component of body tissue that functions outside of the body's cells (thus the "extracellular" designation). It's made up mostly of collagen, a type of protein. So extracellular matrix extracted from the bladder of a pig does not actually have any of the pig's cells in it.

Having no idea what healing powder is in Fallout, I dunno how it compares, but it's a powder... that heals... so it seems like it'd fit the definition

Instant healing? No! Healing over time? Yeah. Remember gameplay is not always representative of truth. Like medical kits instantly healing you. Or sleeping at an Inn knits broken bones etc etc. It is just a quick simulation of a longer process.

So yes and no.

Nice link btw Defron..

I have spoken to several colleagues that will, under certain circumstances, teleport to my house and perform such a feat... among other things.

Stopping the bleeding instantly is all you really need in the middle of a battle (when such a thing as "healing powder" would be used) as it allows you to finish the fight (if needs be and with the help of adrenaline) rather than hemorrhaging out.

Obviously it's no replacement for the needed long-term medical attention, but for the purposes of the idea of a "healing powder" yes, it fits.

I was thinking the OP meant something resembling a healing potion. Like Cazador stinger in the gut, sprinkle some powder on it and you are 100% fine.

No he meant the item "healing powder" which Legionaries carry on themselves.

Yeah, but iirc, in game it functions like a cheap healing potion.

Wasn't cocaine referred to as "healing powder" once?
