At this point it does seem like something unexplored by the Fallout franchise. It would be very easy to create an event where the player may potentially become a ghoul as one of the ways to complete it.

The modders have you covered, you'll need http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34865 to play as a ghoul and http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35600 to have ghoul traits.

Happy gaming!

Actually a good idea. It would explore elements in the game and they could even add achievements related to being a ghoul player. It would definetly affect you throughout the game like maybe people treat you worse and make fun of you or something. But Ghouls in game are all allies. IDK there is alot that could be thought up.

Again, they'd have to create at least 40% new dialogue for the game and get every voice actor back to the studio and pay them again just for the chance of becoming a ghoul.
Trust me, they won't do it.
Too much work to add in as a DLC.
If they had it in from the start it might have worked out since they already had the voice actors in the studio but as it stands, no.
And then there's the whole lore issue with ghouls only being pre-war or Moira.

I don't think it would go against lore for "new" ghouls. After all, there is STILL plenty of radiation about. Could be easily explained by certain genetic patterns being more susceptible to becoming a ghoul especially since "pure" humans as we know them today cannot possibly exist in the Fallout world due to the higher background radiation and the toxic detritus of a former high tech/industrial society.

Oh no... Not this again... Please let's not start this debate again!

And I agree, it isn't impossible for new ghouls to be created, but Moira's ghoulification left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

I think playing as a ghoul would be awesome. Some towns accept you, others run away / shoot you out of fear. Think of Tennpenny tower from FO3.

Just saying, it is plausible.

Moira's ghoulification left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

I agree here. She wasn't just exposed to massive amounts of radiation, she was at ground zero! I mean, what's her name in Undercity says it took time whereas Moira was instant?

I would say count this in as a possibility for the next game though. That would be awesome. With different dialogue options that would be a for sure second play through.

Ghouls are highly radiation resistant as well, so the whole rad-bar thing would be abolished. Ghouls are healed by the radiation, right? Maybe absorb enough and you gain "+'s" to your S.P.E.C.I.A.L.? Too much, and you become Feral? I don't know, it sounds like a good idea until you really start digging into the lore of the ghouls, I think. But then people will start wanting to play as super mutants, if you can play as a ghoul, though.

Off Topic, does this look like cocks fist bumping? :intergalactic: The pic, not the Beastie Boys in general.

You might want to check Camp Searchlight.

Spoiler
A NCR private became ghoulified without turning feral like the rest of his comrades.

Maybe it has to be in your genes if you can survive high levels of radiation or not. Maybe it's like SW:O where only a handful of people get to play as Jedi, it's luck of the draw. Each game is specially marked, and only a few get to play as a ghoul. For all we know, there may be someone out there [censored]ing that he's always playing the ugly S.O.B. with no hair choices. My luck would be I get to play as Grecks, the ugly ghoul in Freeside with the REALLY lazy eye.

The only reason I can think of for why we can't be a ghoul who was born before the war, is that otherwise we'd know who House is right from the start. Making us discover all these little eccentricities of his as we go along is what makes things interesting.

I mean, telling us about House, and then going "Oh, but you know all this already", would be kinda stupid.
