Would you pay for a DLC which would add depth to the game as

Post » Fri Sep 14, 2012 2:17 am

In two months Skyrim will be one year old and by that time most people will have beaten the MQ, done just about every side quests available and roleplayed just about any character you can name -- twice. I think almost every player by now have realized what Skyrim lacks: depth, choices, consequences. I won't even mention all the problems with the game.

Would you like having a DLC which wouldn't add anything new but improve what's already been done? Like extending the College of Winterhold quest, adding player recognition, being actually able to refuse a quest or doing it in several different ways, etc? In other words: are you willing to forgive Bethesda for having released a half-baked product and, most of all, actually pay for a fix and just pretend the game has always been like that since the beginning? Or, by contrast, do you think they should release such a DLC for free?

Note: I'm clearly not talking about bugs here.

Please, don't rush your answer, I'm aware a thread like this can easily explode but I ask you all to be constructive in your comments.

This would basically require Skyrim to be remade in the way of quests which simply wont happen. Would I pay for one if it existed though? Sure.

Interesting question.

In saying that I would like to see more of an expansion based approach that adds to the existing content such as extending the base faction quest in the game. The larger expansions could very well add all of that and some extra new content, such as a new landmass maybe and some extra quest that accompany the new landmass.

I would be all for an expansion or add on for that matter that eliminate the bugs in the game. I still suffer from broken respawns and weapons and shields still fail to clean up. I will not blindly defend this game still having game crushing bugs such ad the respawns. But like you said this is not a bug thread. I would however like an expansion to fix the bugs and add to the content that exist within the game. I don't know why anybody would debate this at all. I would like to Ser Winterhold restored to a proper actual city than a little shanty town with the magnificent College at its edge.

Skyrim doesn't have as much replay value for me as other TES games, so I would welcome the extra content. However I don't know if I'm willing to pay for something that modders can do better and for free.

I feel like "adding depth" to the game should be free. Look at The Witcher series. About a year after the game comes out they release enhanced edition with a lot of tweaks, improvements and extra content. For the owners of the original, those updates are free.

Just reread your post. No, there is nothing to forgive. I paid around 45€ for the game and according to Steam I have put over 200 hours into it. That's more FAR more than I can say about most games out there.

DLC? Why? Wouldn't this be called an Update?

You have a point. It's been an awesome and advantageous move on CD Projekt part for both players and the company [me, I didn't even know of The Witcher existence until the enhanced edition was announced].

I was thinking the same thing; I definitely got my money's worth out of the base game.

I'd happily pay (so long as the price is reasonable) for the sort of DLC you're describing though. It fits my play-style well, since I like to restart periodically and do different things with different characters. I have a friend, though, you prefers to play one character until he's done absolutely everything. This sort of DLC might not work well for that sort of player since it would require them to start over again to get the full experience. Which, of course, is sort of the point of the DLC. Shaking things up for re-play value.

The Witcher update idea would go great for Skyrim. I would like.if Bethesda considered this approach if they do decide to add more and expanded the base game.

I would pay for a DLC that expanded/redid alot of the Guilds - their rank structure - the Quest flow - and generally and all around addition to all the guilds. yes I would Pay. along with a host of other options currently non-existent in skyrim.

I hate to say it because it goes against principal but I would pay for this. Skyrim missed greatness due to time constraints and [censored] business moves. It would be nice if they could had another coat to their canvas - add some honest depth and make it the game that we all think it could be (but hasn't arguably since Morrowind).
