Wouldn't it be cool to have a bank in each city?

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 6:56 am

It isn't really that important but it would really make the cities seem more realistic and you should have the option to put coins in it. There could also be a quest for the Thieves Guild that makes you rob a bank. Good idea or no?

Huh. That IS interesting . . .

But more realistic? Eh. Banking on the modern sense started up in Renassaince Italy. Banking in the ancient sense was common during the ancient times with the Roman Empire/India/Ancient China/Medieval Turks/Islamic Empire (first to have checks), but a bank bank in a more Viking-inspired culture like Skyrim? No. A merchant-type bank, however, would fit in slightly better.

Yeah, anywhere to store coins I guess.

I don't see why you'd want to store coins to keep them safe (since that's what banks are for), unless the developers of TES become evil enough to add a feature where you can get pickpokecked and/or your gold isn't safe otherwise. (I shouldn't become a video game developer.)

Or it could be a more investment-type thing. Develop a sort of partnership and get returns? *shrugs* It is a game.

Yeah that's a pretty good idea. Kind of want to start my own store now. :)

Granted they have this sort of thing with marriage, but maybe if it were on a risk/reward basis it would definitely be interesting.

Don't we have houses to put our coins in? Or if we don't have the money to buy a house, Anise's Cabin?

Naaaaaah. Then we'd have to contend with a Keynesian faction that would want to make gold septims illegal for trade, create a central bank and issue fiat paper currency.
It would only work if the Dovahkin could transform into Ron Paul to combat such fiends.

I'd only approve this if it was done under the "dead is dead" rules.

Food for thought:

Banks are in lore, as shown in Daggerfall.

Oh, where did I put that Daggerfall Mod....

DF Had Banks in each Province. They were the ones that were the Real Estate traders as well. You could own only one house at a time.

Having a bank would be nice. But if there was one there would have to be incentives to put money in. Like having to deal with thieves, and pickpockets.

And if your money gets stolen, there should be like a little quest that you can search for clues to see who stole your money. (Of course then you will have to kill him/her)

And money is daggerfall has weight so you need a place to store it. In skyrim this isn't the case.

Yeah and weapon vaults and things like that. I wouldn't actually use the banks but I'd rob them lol.

Really?
Soooo.............no opportunities for 100-1 bank leveraging, CDS's, derivatives trades, house-flipping and sub-prime mortgage lending?
What's the point, then, if you can't commit widespread fraud?

;-)

Banks need to be guarded.

The best banks need giants as security, and maybe a dragon on the roof or in the main vault.

There also needs to be a way to equip your character such that before he robs the bank, he can wear armor that is the spittin' image of Clint Eastwood's apparel in "For A Few Dollars More."

(And for those of you who've never seen the film - your life is empty and without substance. Seriously.)

Agreed. There's a chance you'll never see it again unless you put it in the bank. Otherwise the bank would be sort of pointless.
It would be an interesting feature, but I don't know that it fits into the Nord society well.
