Wives that have new dialogue recorded for Hearthfire do say stuff about them, actually. Aela is one of them. It's a dialogue option that asks how the kids are doing. Unfortunately, Aela's is pretty negative when you're living in any house other than Proudspire Manor- she's mostly concerned about the kids' safety. It all comes down to what dialogue set a given spouse NPC uses.
