WTF font?

Post » Sat Dec 17, 2011 8:30 am

I just bought this game for the Xbox360, I can't get it used anywhere, so I dished out $60 for it, and I simply cannot play it. The font is ridiculous! I can't read a thing, and I have hearing problems so it's not like I'm going to crank my volume up. I have a regular old TV and I don't plan to ever play this on an HD TV. Do I need to ask for a refund for a game I've been waiting for months to play or is the font issue going to get fixed?

Is it a HD problem? As in, you're playing it in 720 when the font is only readable in 1080?

So, you want to play a high-definition game, on a high-definition console, but only use a low-definition (and seemingly old and low-quality) TV, this clearly is the fault of the game.

I fear that the devs are not putting much thought or concern in non-HD displays.

That being said, I would advise at least send bethesda an email via tech support so that the problem actually becomes known. Helping those with hearing/sight and other difficulties is always a big boon and makes them look good.

Hope you can work something out!

he said its a regular TV, I assume it means tube or LCD TV.. so chances are it's 480i.

OT adjust your TV picture if you can, if not then i'd say grab ahold of a gaming headset decent ones can range from 40-100. if you aren't planning on forking out that much money then return it for store credit.

I had the same problem when I brought MGS4, I had an old 4:3 box TV, couldn't see a thing. So went put and got 50", now not every one can do that but you can get cheap HD TV on finance, surely for only a few ££ a month.

Worked with the Fallout games. If I don't get a response from Bethesda I'll just get Assassin's Creed, at this point I don't think Bethesda deserves my money.

So you can read in AC but not in Skyrim? Right.

This is quite common, most of the text in games these days is unreadable on SDTV.
They make games with HDTV in mind as they are pretty much ubiquitous now.

Oh Christ in sick of seeing this tired old crap.
It's a HD console and its a HD game and you expect it to look ok on an old SD tv? Seriously?
How the hell is it Bethesdas fault that you have failed to move with the times? It's not like HD is new technology that's suddenly appeared

Are you just bored? Is that why you posted this?

You've been here for a year, have over 100 posts, and you just bought the game and 'realized' it couldn't be read on a regular tv?

You have an old tv and hearing problems. But you don't have a headset yet. Uh huh.

If everyone on the forum chipped in a buck, we could buy this poor soul a 70 inch HD 3D ready monitor.

Thanks for the advice I shot them an email, hopefully they care.

STATEMENT: text is too damn small

I'm sorry, but I'm not going to buy an new TV for a single video game. But if you would like to chip in some money for me to get a new TV, I guess that's something I can get behind!

Thing is, it might be just one single videogame now. Give it a year and it will be a lot more. Wait until next gen consoles, well, don't bother buying them ok?

This game looks like crap on my old black-and-white vacuum tube television and I can't read the font, plus I'm mostly deaf and can't hear anything either.

I demand a refund!

It's because you're playing on an SD TV, it's in no way, shape or form the game itself... I was playing on one too until I bought a VGA cable and hooked my Xbox up to my 1080p Monitor and haven't had a problem visual-wise since then.

My old computer from '97 can't even play a DVD but I'm not going to buy a new one for one single game. We should join forces and destroy Bethesda.

God, you "durr get an HDTV" people never quit do you. If you have nothing better to respond with than telling people to go buy an HDTV, or making some sarcastic [censored] statement to mock them. Why in the hell are you even replying to their threads? I'm not even going to get into the same pointless argument from the many other threads regarding this. I'll just repeat the one statement that is 100% fact yet everyone just ignores or sidesteps.

The Xbox 360 has a standard definition display setting. MOST games I have seen for the xbox 360 have text you can read on an SDTV, and yes all of them say "HDTV: 720p/1080i/1080p" on the back on the case. However since the system has an SD display setting, and a standard has been set with most games having text you can read on an SDTV. It is a perfectly legitimate issue, and people have every right to be disappointed or upset by it. Maybe you don't agree with them, whatever. Gives you no right to mock them or talk down to them about how they need to get with the times.

Not going to bother looking at this thread again, so don't bother replying to this post.

I do when they try to play modern games on severely outdated equipment and then complain that the game's developers aren't catering to their very specific needs, yes.

OK no issue.

Just got an email from Bethesda that apparently they don't care about my issues either. Hopefully gamestop will give me my money back. I love Fallout, but I will NEVER buy another Bethesda game again. Thanks for all your help and understanding guys! Apparently the Bethesda devs share your sentiment.

I feel for you OP, I have some of the same problem. My TV is about 8 years old so the game screen doesn't fit well on it. Half the stuff I can't read because it is cut off at the corners of the screen. Hoping my wife can find me a new Tv with a headphone jack and capable of running the screen size right.
