WTF? No more compatibility mode?!

Post » Sun May 20, 2012 7:55 pm

So apparently that little stealth patch from steam has made it so users can no longer run the .exe in compatibility mode as well as the other problems. Someone MUST be purposefully trying to piss skyrim pc players off. This is the last time I BUY a pc game. If I had just pirated this POS I'd be playing happily right now.

Might be a side-effect of requiring Steam to run, but I'm not sure because I think I ran GTA4 in compatibility mode once.

Can one of you that is still using default recently patched .exe try running compatibility mode windows 95 and tell me if it works for you? When I try it a window pops up that is from Steam and says: Please turn off 'compatibility mode'. Then it tells me instructions for turning it off.

Works for me...well I don't run steam and if you launch with just TESV.exe (old one) it doesn't launch steam...

Great, you still have the old .exe and it works fine for you. Could anyone who does not have the obvious fix that not everyone is capable of having verify they cannot use compatibility mode?

But this means NEVER launching steam right?

What if I do launch steam by mistake, will moving my back up of the first EXE to override the new one steam puts in it's place ....still work?

Because if it will work I can make a batch file to do that each time I run steam.

Sorry, I misread your post, I thought you said someone with the old unpatched exe. Sorry about that.

You are aware, you can just get old EXE, copy it over your patched one, then either don't run steam (so it doesn't patch, or turn off Skyrim updates in Steam, and it will work as it did before?

Yes, as I said above you can just put a backup in there and it will work again. As long as you have Steam off, or turn Skyrim updates in Steam off.

I am reading some players turn off the auto update and then it still updates on the skyrim ExE anyway. (as if steam did not want us to have the choice on this update in particular)

Has anyone experienced this first hand?

Guess that could be the case..but others have stated they have reverted to a backed up EXE and turned off updates and it stayed non-updated. I can't confirm as I don't run my game through steam..thankfully.
