Wuuthrad constantly quest item

Post » Tue May 22, 2012 6:51 pm

Ok, so I did a search and didn't find anyone posting this issue. I finished the companions main quests and went back and took Wuuthrad for myself after finishing the final quest by simply activating the statue in the main room again. Everything seems good for a while. Yet,and I don't know if there's a specific trigger or not, but once I try and drop the ax, I can pick it up, but when trying to drop it again, it says that I can't drop quest items. The thing is, I could drop it constantly just a little while after picking it up, but after having it in my inventory for a while seems to have messed things up. I can try to give it to my follower, but they won't take it. I don't know what to do about all this as it is rather heavy and I prefer to have it stored away than constantly in my inventory. Has anyone else experienced this or know what to do about it?

Ok, I'm bumping this because maybe I wasn't clear in my initial post. I also rolled a new toon and ran into this issue yet again. Once I finish the Companions main quest chain, I'll go back and grab Wuuthrad from the statue to keep. Here's the problem and it seems quite random, but I get the ax, and I can use the ax. However, if I drop the ax from my inventory or place it in a chest or whatever and then pick it up again, it is suddenly a quest item, and I can no longer drop it. This has occurred with two of my characters so far. I say it's random, because I have been able to drop the ax a few times and pick it up and then it becomes a quest item again, and other times I'll simply drop it once and then it's a quest item again. What's consistent is the fact that the ax always becomes a quest item in my inventory again, no matter what. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue or if it's simply a fluke.

Why don't you try leaving the axe alone, learn enchanting/smithing and create a new axe?

Maybe it wasn't intended to be an item for the players to use

Perhaps. The thing is, why make it usable if you have to forever leave it in your inventory? Not a big deal, just wondering if anyone else has this problem or if it's simply something weird about my game.

Eh, I got a dozen items in my inventory I cant get rid of, mainly because they are "quest items". Alto wine, giant's toe etc. to name some. I never tried to get the axe back fromt he statue, but it just adds to the things-not-to-do in a game where I thought I was allowed to do everything in the order I choose.

What I dont understand is why they have weight. In Fallout quest items had no weight, so I never had to make an issue out of it.

I was able to put it down, but I think the main difference between us is that I took the axe back from the statue before the end of the quest - you can actually take it down immediately after you put it in and the doors will still open.

My guess is that if it isn't in your inventory when the quest finishes the scripts aren't set to change it from a quest item to a normal one. Give that a shot and see if it helps.

Will do. Still just shows how something seemingly minor can cause such a headache, especially considering it's a sweet looking ax.

A sweet looking axe thats the joint best two handed weapon statistically in the game (matched with daedric), has a unique default enchantment AND can be triple-enchanted with the right perk. If only you could improve it at a grindstone, it'd be the single best two handed weapon in the game, fairly comfortably.

I've got a stack of Talos amulets that somehow got tagged as Quest. Hope they fix this one soon.

I've got the same issue. I think it happens if you take the amulet from the corpse of the guy who gets executed when you first enter Solitude before getting the quest to actually retrieve it. If you try to complete the quest when you do that it won't be removed from your inventory and the quest never completes. I just loaded a game prior to starting the quest and am just gonna have to wait until that gets fixed.

The vast majority of broken quest type stuff seems to be related to doing things in a different order than normal.

You need to go on the "companion" mission to free the leader of his warewolf status! Can't remember the name of the quest but when you do this ,you put that weopon in the hands of a statue.

That's possible - I was there and I would have looted. It was 20 levels ago so even if I had the old save, I wouldn't. Guess I'm stuck with them for now. The Ivory Claw is tagged as quest also even though I've long since been through with it.
