Xbox 360 massive freezing

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 4:20 pm

Hello - I just want to start off saying that I've always had issues with my Skyrim game causing my Xbox to freeze. After I bought Dawngaurd I noticed it started happening more frequently.

It wasn't an extremely big deal until I got to the Soul Cairin. After that I can't spend more than an hour playing without the game freezing. For instance, it froze on me today within ten minutes - twice. I'm trying not to be frustrated because I love the game but it is very frustrating.

I searched around google and I'm not the only one having an issue. Is Bethesda working on a fix right now?

The freezing isnt something that everyone shares at the same level. I myself have had the game freeze twice since installing dawnguard, once within 3 minutes of starting the game. Its not something that is unversaly bad. In my case I beleive that most of the freezing is due to Xbox live, as I have freezing in other titles but only when connected to live. Personally I would suggest giving the xbox a clean out of the HDD, getting rid of old saves, old game installs you dont really use etc. Then I would also clean the system cache, just to make sure its all good.

Exactly, and sometimes the freeze could be related even to a specific corrupted save - i have experienced it in one of my recent playtroughs- however, specify the version of your console,if the game is installed to hdd or not etc.

I've also been experiencing frequent freezing and occasional lag. Also having issues with graphics, at times it seems like someone is using a camera flash on buildings and other scenery.

I clean out my hdd regularly and I actually just bought this Xbox last fall so it's relatively new. I will have to to through an clean up some of my old Skyrim saves but other than that my hdd stays prett tidy. I also have the fans itself installed on the hdd.

I've been playing Dragon Age 2 today with a little lag but no freezing. If that helps any.

True,i've experienced it too,but it was present even in the vanilla skyrim
If this could help - xbox 360 elite version, installed on hdd - tonight i had a massive freezing near riften,i've waited that the situation were more stable, then i've maked a new save, load it subsequently and the freeze was gone

The fact is that for every single model/console its a different story,if you are encountering problems you've only to try all the possible solutions that you could find on the net

Same here before I installed DG I had a freeze maybe once every 40 hours of gameplay. Now I get a freeze about every 3 hours sometimes less. It's annoying and I stopped playing until fixed.

I have the game installed on 360 elite, and I've noticed after cleaning up my system of old saves and unwanted games, Skyrim is running better. I was really frustrated when I first installed Dawnguard, and it's froze up about 15 times through about 20 hours of play. I've just become used to the freezing, however it's freezing less since I cleaned up my system. The DLC has been great, nice job Bethesda.

I had trouble after the 1.6 patch, game was virtually unplayable due to the constant freezing. Ended up installing Skyrim and turning off all the autosave options. It very rarely freezes now, but I do often find my self replaying a fair bit of the game when I forget to save. I had been playing for a very long time on my main character, which could have contributed to the freezing with the autosaving, and even my second character had a lot of hours.

I too have had this issue, but mine came in late when I asked Serena to turn me. After that total lock ups. This program has more glitches than it should with all of te hype that Dawnguard was given. I've cleaned my system both logically and physically. I've redownloaded twice now and yet this persists.
I also believe a little more test would have gone a long way on this one. This type of frustration causes distrust in your product processes. Will there be any downloads coming to fix these issues. I can overlook most, however when it completely disrupts the energy of wanting to play that is not good.

Even after the most recent update I'm having issues. Every time I play, after 5 min pass, it freezing. I'm actually starting to get pretty annoyed that I can't even enjoy something I've paid for.

No one here mentions clearing the cache, hold both bumpers and the X button until you hear the music / drum beat when booting up game. I do this every 6 to 10 hours of gameplay. I always do this when the game starts acting funny and the problem ususally goes away after doing so. Clearing the cache is a trick I learned from playing Oblivion when it acted funny.

I don't get the freezing near as often as I did prior to patch 1.6 (when the excessive nirnroot glowing was still around), but I still get at least one console freeze everytime I play, regardless of whether or not I clear the system cache and the game cache (mentioned by the poster above).

Same here, since Dawnguard it's been locking up regularly, but when I finished building Lakeview Manor I had a big sort out!
Cleared all the unnecessary soul gems/potions/letters/journals/ingredients etc.. You know...the stuff that doesn't make you much heavier so you just carry em around with you anyway. And I've noticed a definite improvement....I guess they had more of an effect on the memory used than they do on your characters weight
I've had maybe 12 hrs since of freeze free Skyrimming!
My only problem with it now is the loading seems as long as it was before the cut scenes patch but anyway, hope this helps
