Xbox 360 - Poor Low res. environmental textures across the w

Post » Sun May 05, 2013 5:18 am

I've struggled to enjoy Rage thus far due to not only texture pop in, which can be ignored, and with all 3 disks burnt to the HDD is bearable,
but with very low resolution / blurry / indistinguishable textures across the entire game's environment.

While weapons, Characters (the authority troops look amazing), effects, lighting and everything else generally looks great,
the whole game is really, really let down for me by any close up views of environment / buildings / wall textures being a blurry mess.

In all honesty and without trying to be overtly critical or negative, the actual textures on walls and objects are worse in detail than Doom 3, even Quake 3.
With paintings of people being indistinguishable blurs, font on leaflets / signs on walls being unreadable, slabs of concrete being a single grey tone
with no details, and the general look of very dated (ps2 quality) environment elements.

Please sort this out id / bethesda, I've been waiting for this game for about 5 years and have worshipped quake & doom since I was a kid.
My heart sank as I exited the vault to find unloaded textures and very low res textures spoling the game.

Please make some sort of fix.

Reinstall Doom3 and you will see that Doom3 has the same kind (if not worse) of lowres textures.
This is by design! Giving you more objects, scenery and geometry detail at high framerate with the cost of lower res textures.
The comparison with PS2 games fits. Most PS2 games had bad textures but lots of geometry and high framerates. Although Rage does look a lot better than PS2 was ever able to deliver.
Rendering highres textures is very bandwidth heavy and will decrease framerate.
So this is no bug. If you don't like this, bad luck.

If you prefer highres textures over framerate you might want to try Gears 3.

Btw.: Quake 3 was different. Small, closed maps with very few geometry but higher resolution textures.

In order to achieve a smooth, 60 fps there had to be sacrifices in other areas. The fact that a game this beautiful is running at such a high frame rate on half decade old consoles is pretty crazy.

I totally agree, this as far as i'm concerned is the best looking 360 game i've played on my 50 inch plasma, the bigger screen makes alot of games look a bit [censored] and i love that buttery smooth 60 fps i can totally forgive the crappy rez on some objects for all the other goodness.
On another note the 30 fps on BF3 has killed it for me.

I don't agree is the best looking game in xbox, I also have Skyrim, and have been complaining about textures there too, don't know much about hardware software and such, but Skyrim has better textures, at least in my case Skyrim looks way better with better quality, but in RAGE sience I left the vault everything was low res, super low res and I cant even read what's on sings
