Wouldn't have mattered if you were allowed to use the PC since the PC version has steamworks und can't be activated/played before release.

Thanks for the confirmation that both console versions run and look equal :)

Glad to hear this.

Was the 360 version you were comparing the PS3 version to the full install?

Were you playing out in the open Wastelands, which is apparently where texture pop-in is worst?

Word on the street is that the Xbox version is best, don't know how accurate that is though.

Only a bit better and because on the 360 you can do a full install and Sony wouldn't allow a full install on PS3.

Maybe scientifically or technically better, but not perceptively better, so it doesn't matter anyway.

How do you know there's not a perceptible difference? I don't know myself, I'm just going by what John Carmack has said, and having watched the PS3 play-through video of a retail copy of Rage, it does look like the PS3 version has more pop-in going on.

Both versions are up on youtube and both have some noticeable pop-ins, but for me it's on both very minor distracting :)

When John Carmack said that Xbox full install > PS3 partial, that was at his Keynotes at Quakecon while they didn't know for sure how much they are allowed to install at the PS3. He said, that they still trying to get as much space as possible from Sony and only later, not so long ago it was revealed that they got their ok to install 8GB which is considerable bigger than most games do. Guess this helped a lot with pop-ins.
After watching both versions on youtube I would agree that both look pretty identical :)

It's not. They really do look the same. Actually I'd prefer the ps3 version but that has nothing to do with graphics I'm just basing that off of what I'd prefer. I have a feeling we will see a ton of comparison videos showing how superior the xbox is. It looks amazing any way you play it. Everyone is going to enjoy no matter how they are playing it. I would 100% tell anybody who is playing on a console to tale a few minutes and calibrate their tv to the best possible settings. Not just for this game but for all your game. I can safely say that if you use the out of box setting on your tv then your not getting to see the full potential of any game. It really helps to calibrate. Sometimes your tv automatically has things like edge enhancement (on), hdmi black levels (on) and auto motion plus (on). Turn all of that off. Play in game Mode if your tv has the option or go the av forums and search for your best gaming settings.
Just a hint: if your tv has trouble with blacks where they look gray and wash out turn the brightness down and gamma down a couple notches. Your goal is to see the game the way the developer intended, features like edge enhancement may look great to some people but really it just makes the image overly sharp.

Sorry lol for getting into that. I've done this for a living and I'm a little OCD when it comes to this.

This works.... I have calibrated my tv perfectly for gaming..... and everyone who owns a top end hd tv should do the same.....It took me about a month to calibrate it properly.....and to all of you console gamers...If you plan on buying a new tv make sure you buy a full backlite led tv.... I am telling you its outstanding and makes a world of difference....the game reviewers should all do their reviews on top end tvs for all platforms...always

what kind of tv do you own? I have a sony xbr929 the blacks are so black its unreal and there is zero black crush.....its amazing if you have the $$ get one you will love it...samsung is ok but cant compare....

Well I do have a samsung but it's the best samsung out right now. I took my ps3 into best buy and I spent hours hooking it up to many different tv's. After about 20 I chose the samsung. It's led and it has an incredible picture. It surely was not the cheapest. There was one tv that I liked a little better but it was about 6 grand, too much. I love my tv and the picture looks better than most I've seen mainly because people don't take time to calibrate. I can make any tv look good with a little change in the settings. When I bought my tv I based it on what I saw and how long the life would be. I've seen so many TVs look great but die out a year later.

I have also a samsung D8000 last year model 46" its an amazing tv.........my only problem with Samsung is the flashlighting because they are edge lite panels.....still Samsung destroys most tv sets on the market....

go over to avs forums and try the calibration settings you will be amazed at some of the settings that are there..

So people that got this early are complaining of significant texture pop-in on the PS3 version. I guess it is on the Xbox as well, but much less prevalent. This is disappointing to me as I have the PS3 version preorederd. :sadvaultboy:

Well the good newz is that even with pop-ins, the game still looks amazing (once pop-ins are done).

Good thing I got my PC, I HATE 720p resolutions with aliased edges, I just can't stand the consoles. I hope the PS4 and the next Xbox support anti-aliasing and actuall 1080p, because then I will buy them, it svcks that alot of fun games are only on console, like Mortal Kombat and Twisted Metal :(

What in the heck did your calibration process entail?

See I keep hearing the xbox pops more. I have a ps3 and am also concerned about new games. This game seems fine. A little problem with texture is nothing for me. I really really can't wait to play, 1 day left!

I'm still dubious about the PS3 version, based on videos I have seen now of 360 and PS3 footage and comments that have been made. The playthroughs I have seen on YouTube on both consoles suggest to me the pop-in is obviously more of an issue on PS3. Hopefully it's not too off-putting. Also, PS3 demos have been suspiciously rare up until release. God I'm old and cynical but those claiming they are identical (or near enough with regards to pop-in of higher-res textures) I wonder if they are id / Bethesda employees, or Sony [censored].

Almost every multiplatform game looks way worse on PS3, because its ported from 360... Its nothing new really, you shouldn't be surprised. Get it on PC if you can ...

On Borderlands the texture would take forever to come into focus but it didn't ruin the game. I would usually let it draw in and run to the bathroom, grab something to drink, check my email. I'm sure it won't even be as bad as BL either.

i'm hoping the 360 version is better, that's what i pre-ordered. I was having a hard time choosing between the two. I chose 360 version because you do 22 gb install and on ps3 it's only 8, what that tells me is it will take longer for stuff to load on ps3 (textures, etc.) because it will have to reference the disc more often. The way the game looks is more important to me than the time it takes stuff to load though. Everytime id has demonstrated the game they've used a 360 to do it, i don't think they'd do that if the ps3 version looked better. The way they're releasing this game is very annoying. Id won't let anyone post a review till release date (so it seems) which means to get the pre-order bonus everyone is offering (free upgrade to anarchy edition) you have to guess at which one to get! Then again if you don't care about pre-order bonus you can just wait till release date, see reviews and comparisons and buy the better one. All in all though this wasn't handled the best way.
