Xbox One save corrupts just made me lose EVERYTHING

Post » Thu Jan 14, 2016 6:01 pm

Now a days, it seems pretty hard to lose everything you just did for the past ten days of sheer gameplay. This morning, though, it happened... and I am pissed.

Just a heads up out there, if you save your game too much on the Xbox One, it'll prompt you to delete some saved games. It does become more frequent with new characters made, by the way. Most of you probably noticed that the most recent save is generally corrupt, but the one under it is fine. Well, I hadn't noticed that this morning right away. Actually, I simply forgot about it. Slipped my mind. So, you know what I accidentally did?

I started deleting my save files. All of them. Except for the very top, corrupt file. Because clicking X and then A puts me in a trance like state, and next thing I knew, I was trying to load the only remaining save file- oh it's corrupted...

Thanks, Bethesda!

So it's their fault you deleted all your files? Must be an Xbox thing havent had any corrupt saves on the PS.

It's not Bethesda's fault. It's not a good idea to delete ALL of your saves, and leave the one that's corrupt still standing, and this includes any game, not just FO4. Maybe this is an Xbox One thing, if so, that really svcks.

How many saves did you have exactly? I also play on Xbox and keep only about 15 saves for these kind of things.

Can't you just use a save stored in the cloud? At least you can on PS.

Ok maybe it's not Bethesda's fault, but why are save corrupts even a thing? That's what the topic is. And I KNOW this must've happened to other users. This wasn't an idiot mistake. It was a genuine accident that wouldn't have happened had there not been corrupted saves.

WHY IS THIS A PROBLEM FOR Xbox One???

It's not just the XBox. PC users have had the same issue.

I've tested a few saves for people. The last one (a quick save) was not loadable by the creator but I could load it and play it just fine. I tried to make a manual save with the intention of sending it back to the person to see if that would work. The saving process hung for about a minute and a half, but it did save. When I tried to load the save I was given a message the save was corrupted and would not load.

Best to simply disable auto/quick saves and only make manual saves as it tends to be the auto/quick saves that have this issue going back several Bethesda games.

Not everyone runs into this issue, but it's annoying when you do.

In a case like this I would think you could contact tech support and they could resurrect the save file for you.

Wow that svcks dude. I played on PS4 and have over 175 saves with two characters with no files corrupted.

Also, it's Obama's fault dude. Not Bugthesda. :shifty:

It happens on PC too, I'd presume it happens on the PS4 as well.

On PC it's a reasonably common chance occurrence. To work round it you'd need to limit the amount of saves in the saves folder, disable auto-save, avoid quick-save like a leper, use manual saves, and keep a somewhat frequent back-up schedule.

And then still it's no guarantee. But then again, since it's a chance occurrence, lots of people will never get a corrupted save.

Every BGS game since Morrowind has had this issue. It doesn't seem they've managed to fix it for FO4.

I have experienced corrupt saves on XBox1. It stopped happening since I began using the QUIT menu setting to exit the game.

Hmmm...

I can't remember when the last time I had corrupt save in a Bethesda game; I play on PC. I have not had one yet in Fallout 4 and I don't recall having any issues in Skyrim. Perhaps Fallout 3..... but that could have been due to conflicting mods...

In Fallout 4 I make a hard save before I do any quest or do something major like spending several hours building a settlement or when I level up. I delete some old saved games and compress the remaining saved games (15 saved games per batch) to save space on my HDD. Eventually I will delete my compressed saved games... I am pretty sure my early saved games have no / very little relevance now that I am around level 70.

I had this problem also. I do a quick save then a normal save then quit the game. Ever since I haven't had an issue

The only saves I have deleted are the corrupt ones and I have played for over 100 hours. I also have the 1TB Xbox so plenty of space.

I'm Xbox1 and while I haven't yet had a corrupted save - touch wood - I have had several crashes. I've had 4 now.

This is my first Bethesda game and it's the first time I've ever encountered a game that has a cycle of crashing on me.

For the first time in my long Xbox gaming history. Carrying the concern where ever I go, that it could crash yet again any minute, could well end up deciding how far I continue playing.

Do Bethesda have history with their games crashing, or is it the consoles?

They are caused by not shutting the game down by quitting to main menu and closing the game.

Fallout 4 have an list of previous quick and auto saves. 10 and 3 for each character on PC.

Do not deleted them they will just get created again.

You can delete them for old characters

Save corruption happens if game crashes during save or you turn console off before it saves to drive, it might put in memory first.

Turning off auto save is stupid as rarer saves can either be corupted or another bug can mes up an you have to go back far

Hey, Art Inspired. Out of curiosity, prior to discovering that your save file was corrupt, did you happen to shut down your Xbox One console while in the Fallout 4 menu or did you close the game before powering off your console? Is your Xbox One power mode set to "Instant-on" or "Energy-saving"? Thanks!

As a Xbox player the only two times I had a corrupt save was when I shut the game/Xbox after saving. You need to save, QUIT the game through the settings menu, then shut the xbox.

I have not been doing this, and this seemed to fix the problem.

It's in Energy-saving mode.
