If you became a hobo

Post » Mon Aug 06, 2012 12:59 am

Let say you go bankrupt and lose your job and everything is taken from you except the clothes off your back and a few supplies(only 5 items of your choice). How would you react to this sudden change of your life and what would you do to survive this new life given to you?

Personally I would live in shelter home for a while and try to get back on my feet by doing odd jobs here and there, then when I gather enough money I try to found a little place to live until I can found job opening that pays well enough.

Now the five items I would bring are:

1:A book(Probably greek/roman mythology or law studies book)
2: 3 bottles of clean water for myself
3: Knife
4: A few energy bars
5:Backpack

1) library card
2) a hatchet
3) a metal pot with its lid, should count as one since they are almost always with each other
4) a backpack
5) flint

the rest i can steal and poach as i require. personally i would not mind living like this if things don't turn out the way i am planning them.

I'd just go live with my parents until I can find a new job, and avoid being a hobo altogether.

I can take five items of my choice, I choose five briefcases full of cash.

What happens if your parents say no you can't live with them for some reason?

So your going to rob a bank then since money is not option if you have none in your accountant.

1. Passport
2. My Harry Potter Books
3. Various hygienic products One really good book to educate me.
4. Clothes suitable for where I plan to go.
5. A notebook to write in.

I would then go on a journey outside of society to test myself in the wilderness for a year, pushing myself to my mental and physical limits. I would protect my books in every way possible, and probably try to find a good fertile or populated are to wander around in for some time.

The idea is that if I can survive the test of nature, then I will return to society with no fear of poverty... not to mention, one hell of a story to share at coffee shops.

What disqualifies a briefcase with cash as an item?

Do you actually have one? Because the items you can pick or mention have to be actually there or you can get them in short amount of time.

Because cash has to come from some place and since you're bankrupt the options you have left of getting money is a job once you get yourself together or stealing.

your probably better of asking people what they would take with them to live their life as a hobo.

there is a chart around here some where that shows the longer you have been participating in the community discussion the more of a sarcastic smart ass you become.

money is a legitimate answer though.

Personally i have financial plans to retire in 7 years. There is no guarantee of that, so my plan for the event in which i fail is to live off the land using the money i saved up to supplement the days in which i am unable to provide my self with the necessities of survival.

Brother? Friend? :P

Okay, I see your point though, I'll answer properly, and without looking for loopholes in the question.

What I would do is look for a low level labor job of some sort. A kind where they provide you with shelter. (Don't care how bad it is) from there, just work my way up the ladder, save up, get cleaned up proper, get some professional looking clothes and immediately start applying for a slightly better position. I have a high school education already, and am fairly physically strong and dexterous, so I'd apply for maybe a police officer job or something. I think all it really requires is a GED and passing the physical test.

All this of course is temporary, and just so I can stabilise myself. From there, I'd start looking for jobs as high paying as my previous one. (I'm in medical school, so I'm assuming I'd be a doctor by then)

By that logic, how do you have five items?

I'd take my bow and arrows, my edible native plants and animals of Australia book, my car, my guitar and a radio and go camp in my car in the rainforest.

Lol got me there.

What am trying to say is that your broke and you have no money but a few supplies of your choosing, now where these supplies come from must actually exist around you or you get them your self.

That a good idea, but one question. Wouldn't the bank try to take your car since you can't pay for it anymore?
