Do you dislike games you do not play?

Post » Sat Dec 29, 2012 6:00 pm

How many of you have honestly fallen into the trap of disliking something without ever trying it or without giving it much time, experience, research or thought?

Explain which games and why.

Personally, I made my negative judgements on games like "50 Cent" simply because of my dislike for rap and hearsay on how bad the game was.

Street Fighter, mainly just because I think everyone that plays that game must be a [censored].

Usually if a game doesn't sound good I usually pass on playing it. This is why I like YouTube, if it's a game I've heard of but haven't played but I'm interested in it I can watch on YT and see how it is.

I dislike specific subjects (I can't stand basketball, for example, so wouldn't be the least bit interested in a basketball based video game) and certain types of games. For example, I didn't have to actually play Guitar Hero or one of those dance games to know that they wouldn't be something I would enjoy.

But I don't bear any negative feelings about these sorts of games, just an utter lack of interest in them. 'Apathy' would be a more accurate term than 'dislike'.

As a kid I suppose I may have grown to actually dislike a game that I didn't care for that was popular among my friends, drawing them away from activities that I would have preferred to be doing instead. But that's kids for you.

JRPG's. Not bananas over Japanese culture, and the genre has never appealed to me.

I don't. I don't judge things before having experienced them myself. Of course there are exceptions, but as a general rule I don't decide to dislike a certain game/artist/TVshow/series without having tried it out.

Don't let ignorance get the better of you.

Deus Ex: Invisible War, because I'm a big Deus Ex fan and it's nothing like the original. But then I did play it, all the way through.

And it was just as bad as I thought, except with even more PC port issues.

I look at the Steam sales as they pop up, as if looking for something that I could possibly justify buying at all, smirk, then close the application.

I do not. And my respect for those that do dwindles. But, you can't help it. Has to do with how you were brought up and under what circumstances.

I dislike certain genres...sports games. fighting games, platformers... so I'd have to say yes, in many cases , I do.

Also, Train Simulator 2013 (which I never played and never will), because the very notion of having 1000 euro's worth of DLC is just too much for me to comprehend.

Eh, yes and no. I I've never played it I might say it looks stupid but I won't say I hate it if I've never tried it.

I've disliked games that I've seen other people play, so in a way, yes.

Usually I don't have any feelings for games I haven't played, though.

There are certain games I wouldn't need to try to know I wouldn't like them. A game about American football, for instance, I know I will not enjoy because I don't enjoy the sport. Games from other genres I don't like much (survival horror, arcade-combat type games etc.) I might not bother with, but I wouldn't speak ill of them before trying them.

I tend to try to not simply dislike things I havent tried, but my opinions of other games in the genre might colour things somewhat. For example, while I generally dislike JRPGs, I loved Golden Sun, however my negative experiences with Modern Warfare 2 mean that I'm highly cynical about newer Call of Duty games despite having not played them.

Deus Ex: Invisible War, because I'm a big Deus Ex fan and it's nothing like the original. But then I did play it, all the way through.

Silly Pov, there was no Deus Ex sequel, only the prequel: Human Revolution. Only Human Revolution you hear? :stare:

Funnily enough i was actually talking about this the other day to some dude on my LIVE friends list. And the short answer to that would be NO.

For example, i grew out the whole super hero thing when i was a kid and can't enjoy any game with Batman, Spider-Man etc in them. I can appreciate the fact that the 2 most recent Batman games are somewhat good, however, i just can't get into them so i won't play 'em. Apart from watching the first 20mins of the Dark Knight, i haven't watched any of the recent Batman movies for this very reason too.

Another game series i don't play, other than MW4, yet i can appreciate why so many people do enjoy them is the CoD games. Yeah, i know it's the cool thing to hate on them and to belittle the people playing them, but ignore the fact very little changes year after year, the game actually runs very good and is vastly superior to almost (not all) every other FPS out there. For example, Homefront, Operation Flashpoint, MoH and so on all have more gameplay issues than CoD, yet it's not cool to slate those games.

It wasn't that bad. It was no DX1 by a long shot, but it was a decent game in its own right. Although I think I paid all of a dollar for it, so I could be biased.

OT: No, I can't dislike something I don't know anything about. If a game doesn't appeal to me, I won't play it. But that doesn't mean I dislike it, it just doesn't appeal to me.

I don't play certain types of games because they don't interest me. I wouldn't say I dislike them but I would dislike having to play them.
