(different vault)
hell better yet every vault dweller gets a pipboy-9000, while one get a fatman, they are all told that one pip boy contains the codes to stop the vault from going thermo nuclear. But none of the pipboy's have batterys. infact, the entire vault suplie of batterys i hold up int a room with 5000 10year olds and there game boys, and the 10 yearolds are all armed to the teeth.

of course the vault never explodes and never will, they masscare each other over some AA batteries, only to have the message HAHA svckER!!!!!, displayed on their pipboy-9000

1,000 people with various brain disorders including but not limited to (forgive my poor spelling of these) terets, narcolepsy, alshymers, sadism, masachism, dementia, schzytophrenia, etc. There is only enough supplies for everything to be divided into 1,000 precisely equal shares.

This isn't a rlly good one but how about a vault where all the jumpsuits were rigged with explosives set to go off in 1hr and the only way to disarm was to place a human eye inside? The experiment would be to see if people would cut out their own or kill someone else for theirs.

Vault 109. Three hundred people, a million spooks.

Vault is filled with spooky stuff, ranging from sudden "BOOM" sounds to constant, silent knock-knocking (like someone walked with wooden shoes above your room) around the vault.
The structure is much larger than usual vaults, and the inhabitants are scattered around the vault. Placed slowly before the war seperately, they don't know of each other.
When enough spooking has happened, small doors open and allow connection with other sections of the Vault, letting people to see each other. But they won't be that enthusiastic about it, since every Dweller looks alike (except men/women naturally) and they were told that they would be the only inhabitants (and told they would emerge a day after the war). They think the new Dweller is the cause of the two-year horror, and fighting begin.

Pretty close to Vault 106, but a lot more spooky.

Esimated Failure time: 24 months-36 months.

Video recording is present, and information will be sent to Vault-Tec HQ.

my vault would be filled with all the wanna be gangsters of the world and all the goths. but the goths have to live an area decorated by the gangsters and vice versa. after a month the gansters get access to their armory (lots of blunt knifes) and the goths get access to theirs (44.magnums). after another 1 month a big door separating the 2 get opened and the outcome is monitered. after 1 year the vault is opened and the survivers(if any) get to leave.

A vault where the only way to get to the food is jumping over lava pits like super mario
A vault where the residents have to hunt their own food in an underground forrest full of feral ghouls.
A vault where people are given only hunger and protein pills to keep them alive.
A vault where the walls are covered with bright neon lights that never go out.

I've never watched any Saw movies, was something I wrote similar? I actually got the idea off a computer game where a madman locks a few people on a ship and they're each told to kill a selected person. Can't remember the name, prob. at the bottom of my shelves gathering dust :P

My vault would consist of an underground factory and knowledge archive, whose purpose is to supply ammunition to the surface automated bunker armed with Rock-It Launchers that fire GECKs.

A friend of mine had a bomb shelter at the bottom of the garden when we were kids (his dad was planning on a brave new world or something) and so we used to smoke cigarettes surreptitiously.

Vault 50:

Half the inhabitants have a High IQ, the other half has a low IQ.

Vault 4:
All walls are windows and there is no privacy.

Vault 87:
Everyone is Claustrophobic and the corridors and rooms are small and tight and the intercom makes noises that sound like the roof is breaking and slowly collapsing.

A few 20-40 people in small vault101 sized vault. A few rooms that need keys, or can be regularly opened with deadly things (deathclaws, mirelurks, radiation.) in them.
The test is to see if people can overcome curiosity.
and if no one does anything after 5 years, I take 5 people with me and open all the doors.
Vault is Vault 93 (no reason)
The next vault consists of a trap door where when you fall in, there is NO ESCAPE for the password to the door is 10000 digits long and you can only enter 9999 digits! MUAHAHAHAHA!
Its a normal vault, water food ect. BUT its haunted with demons and ghost because the entrance/exit of the vault is actually a doorway to he11!
Vault is Vault 665+1 ( dont add its actually called 665+1 )

Vault concept # 1
The vault is run by a ZAX computer and is populated with families with children. Supplies such as food, water, and medicine are stored in hundreds of small, locked storage rooms. Each store room contains supplies barely adequate to sustain the vault residents for one week. The store rooms can only be unlocked by the ZAX. There are no tools or weapons in the vault that would allow the residents to defeat the ZAX nor could they break open storage rooms.

Well, there are some simple weapons ? knives, and the ZAX will open one store room each time a child is sacrificed on the altar that stands before the ZAX terminal.

Vault concept # 2
This is a small vault that was privately commissioned by a very wealthy woman. Yes, she was rich - and eccentric. The vault was designed to save her and her many, many cats. It's the crazy cat lady vault!

The cat lady eventually passed away (her corpse was subsequently eaten by her cats). The cats kept on breeding. As radiation slowly leaked into the vault, each new generation of cats were slightly mutated ? until something resembling saber tooth tigers emerged.

Vault concept # 3
This is a vault with many different levels and many water-tight doors. Doors can be locked from either side and not unlocked from the other.

Pipes in the vault are designed to rupture in a specific sequence and at specific times causing water to pour into different areas. Once the water is in, there is no way to pump it out. Vault dwellers scramble to close and lock doors to keep some areas of the vault dry, but of course those locked into the flooded areas are condemned to drown. Battles break out between those who want to close doors to keep some areas safe and dry and those who want to open doors to partially flooded areas to save family and friends that will drown. The last survivors are packed into a small, crowed area in the high point of the vault. (Imagine a room jammed with hundreds of skeletons!)

Vault 420. 1000 drug addicts, acoholics and other addicted people. No drugs, no booze, nothing to help their addictions. No weapons either, not even a knife.

1000 people going cold turkey at once, with no way to help themselves and no way to end their misery, somethign to see eh?

Vault Concept:
OK. Here's a vault safe from nuclear attack. It's a bit larger than your 'typical' vault, and it can hold at least 2000 people. On the surface, it's pretty normal. Normal people, normal family, normal life as possible... However, this is also part of social experiment, and its subject is: Keeping normal society in the closed area. Also, there's occasional equipment failure and blackout.
But, that's not all. Deep under the 'normal' sections, there's well-hidden secret lab, and only the overseer and authorized lab technicians can enter there(other vault dwellers don't know its presence at all). In the lab, they perform various kind of experiments, mostly related to genetic engineering. DNA manipulating, cloning, ...... you name it. Perhaps, clone army of (enter your favorite anime/game character name) is being produced there(mwahahaha). One of two G.E.C.K this vault has, is in this secret lab.

Oh, this vault will open after 200 years, and from then, anyone can in and out. So, the vault dwellers must prepare for any possible attacks once the vault opens. Or, anyone can take G.E.C.K outside, and make a new settlement there.

My idea requires three vaults, actually; call them 999-A, 999-B, and 999-C.

Vault 999-A
Initial population: 1,000 (500 male, 500 female, age distribution matching prewar average)
Support Capacity: 10,000
Experiment / Purpose: observe how a population copes with random bouts of pain, from mild to extreme, inflicted without rhyme or reason.
Awareness of other 999 Vaults: none
Vault opens: 200 years
Special equipment: none

Vault 999-B
Initial population: 1,000 (500 male, 500 female, age distribution matching prewar average)
Support Capacity: 10,000
Experiment / Purpose: observe how readily inhabitants will inflict pain on complete strangers (inhabitants of Vault 999-A), and what social effects the casual inflicting of pain on strangers might have
Awareness of other 999 Vaults: 999-A
Vault opens: 200 years
Special equipment: none

Vault 999-C
Initial population: 50 (25 male, 25 female, all advlts, all sterile)
Support Capacity: 10,000
Experiment / Purpose: Aside from initial 50-strong caretaker population, inhabitants will be those rescued from 999-A, or their descendants. Rescuees are all children (up to age ~13 or so), and are indoctrinated to believe they are to be the Elite, the *actual* rebuilders of human society, given extensive training (combat, weapons, engineering, etc). The question? "Will former victims turned into an Elite class tend to rise above their past, seek revenge, or follow some other path?"
Awareness of other 999 Vaults: 999-A and 999-B
Vault opens: 195 years - they have a five-year head start to prepare for the other two Vaults to open.
Special equipment: multiple GECK units. Large armory. Light industrial facilities (mothballed, disassembled, awaiting reassembly on the surface).

Special Notes:
They are built in extreme proximity to each other, and their entrances are at the end of very VERY long tunnels, spreading in a "Y" pattern from the location of the vaults themselves.
The EXIT tunnel, however, is an upward spiral that serves all three vaults simultaneously. A side-tunnel - initially sealed, during population insertion - from the entry tunnel leads to this spiral. The entry tunnel is sealed (via demolition) shortly after population insertion.
All vaults are connected through the Overseers' offices.
The Overseers and their immediate families are all aware of the total Experiment, and each sub-Experiment; they are also exempt from the Experiment within their own Vault.
The Overseers three together form a council for joint control of Vault 999.
The successor for Vault 999-C's current overseer is selected from the families of the current Overseers.

Total statistics for Vault 999:
Initial population: 2,050 (1,025 male, 1,025 female)
Support Capacity: 30,000
Vaults open: 195 to 200 years
TRUE EXPERIMENT: Create a class of victims, create a class of victimisers, and then create a class of FORMER victims who become empowered, are well armed, and have a five-year head start at rebuilding. What happens when all three groups are finally introduced to each other, face to face?

If I worked for vault tech id fill a vault with 1000 women (as that one went, all attractive)

I being the only male, the only way for the vault to unseal its self is for 200 more people to be born within the vault. So I would basically assure myself some good times :P

Vault 50:

Every person in the Vault is assigned a pet from birth, failing to care for the pet results in being exiled.

Vault 2:

When the vault is closed, everyone is given very anti-communist education. After 2 weeks of this, a fake communist take-over is staged and people believe the vault is now communist.
