If you install PC Skyrim from the retail disc, the launch pa

So apparently the day 1 update for those with the digital version is just 18MB.

Well, if you install from the disc version, it seems that the version they published on the discs is even more out of date than the digital version because the update is over 200MB.

And naturally, because lots of people are currently downloading/unlocking, it is downloading SUPREMELY slowly.

At this rate, I won't be playing for at least another hour and a half.

Angry face.

Well they DO need to burn SOME version onto the DVD's, while the digital version can be updated on the fly at any time.

I know, I know. :P

My "OMG ITS SKYRIM AND I AM ABOUT TO PLAY IT"... just fizzled a bit, is all... :P I am aware that updating a digitally distributed version is far easier. *wink

Obviously a disc version which needs to be shipped around the world will have an earlier build than a digital version - duh. I was simply providing details on exactly how bigger it is and giving some caution that a painfully slow download that lasts hours will occur.

You forgot the most important part - the servers will be clogged up and it will take FOREVER to download. What would normally take a few minutes will take at least an hour.

200MB is not large by itself, taken out of context..... But on a server that is bogged down and clogged up and crawling along ? It becomes QUITE large. :P

I still have 80MB to go... and I have been downloading for over half an hour.

So I guess I just got the day 1 patch downloaded recently, cause I just had an update information in Steam and it was Skyrim and at 18MB size.
Good, so it's just the unlocking at midnight then and not a huge file to download.

What part of "AND infuriatingly slow" did you struggle to understand?

My patience wears thin when people rush to comment when they haven't even read what they are replying to. :P

Has anyone tried switching to a different download region? Steam->Settings->Download+Cloud tab - if the files are on the other regions servers it shouldn't make a difference where you download from as long as your own region has unlocked.
