I'm surprised that I don't feel a need to use mods yet. By the time I'd played Oblivion this long I'd already installed three or four mods to get rid of features that were annoying me.

I'm a huge Oblivion lover but everything we saw beforehand made it clear this was really going to be something special. Last night I fought a Frost dragon and was in complete admiration for the devs because of the dragon's behavior. It was exactly as you'd imagine a dragon to act. It hovered, it attacked, it landed, it rose again and flew away and repeated all of that just so perfectly. That's just one thing that grabs me; there's so much more. I wish I didn't have to go to work today!

I don't think it blows Oblivion away to be honest.

Skyrim is amazing, don't get me wrong.

But I can see myself using mods in Skyrim. Oblivion + mods was amazing.

Skyrim needs a couple mods. Mainly UI mods though.

The UI in Skyrim is a step-down from Oblivion.

So, does that mean that if I do want mods, then it's not a good game?
I do like it, and I'm having much fun, but there's also loads of stuff I'd want changed.

I will say, though, that it's nice to not have to go through 50 very similar-looking Oblivion Gates every 100 yards.

They got so annoying toward the end that I just rushed through them.

I get what you mean OP. I've been playing for so long, and I've yet to consider adding mods.

Edit: Although a UI mod that lets me see my character would be nice.

I'm very happy with the finished product overall, but I could see a few things to mod.

Smaller, non-consoley interface.
Some texture replacements (most are fine, some could use higher-res.
Better journal.

The only thing I want modded in is my own house, somewhere in the mountains ... A cave or something. And I will do it as soon as I download the creation kit ...
While in Oblivion I needed more than a few mods ...

I was pondering this last night, Bethesda have clearly been watching the most popular mods for Oblivion, I can count on one hand the things that I want modded, even then it's mostly just UI and textures.

No.

It means Skyrim is a better game for allowing you to change the game to the way you want it.
