This is what us internet folks like to call a "meme." It starts off as an inside joke that only a few people understand and use. During this phase, it is typically funny and amusing for those in the know. Shortly after, other people who have never had direct exposure to the source of this inside joke start hearing it, and with minimal understanding of its usage and context, start using it themselves in an effort to also be funny. However, it is never ever funny when someone on the outside uses this inside joke. Shortly after this phase, everyone knows about the joke, and it stops being an inside joke and starts just being something everyone says for absolutely no reason whatsoever with little-to-no wit involved. At this time, all sense of humor has left the joke, yet it remains in use for years to come.

Good summary.

Explaining this is just sad. MeMe's are a cultural phenomena from Internet use. It's a beautiful thing. Enjoy.

I used to be an expert Athlete from Cyrodiil but on the way to Skyrim I took an arrow in the knee.

I used to [censored] about things that were popular just so I would sound opinionated and edgy, until I took a sense of humor to the knee.

I thought arrow to the knee jokes got out of hand, but then I...........killed every guard in every town I routinely visit. Don't hear it anymore.

I have a lot of respect for the Nexus school. Skyrim could use more modders.

I think it's awesome. The way it's spread so fast just shows how many people enjoy this game

No, it shows how many idiots think using memes are cool.

I'm proud of the Knee jokes because it just goes to show how popular Skyrim has become. Sure, its derived from redundency of in-game voice-acting but its spreading the name of Skyrim. Which means the game gets more and more popular. Sorry, don't mean to be a svck-up at all. Its just I'm so happy that BGS made such a wonderful game. I actually gave up gaming due to school for about 3 years now, right after I played the hell out of Oblivion. But I just had to pick up Skyirm.

Arrow in the knee wasn't funny in the first place. Anyone that posts that is either under the age of 18 or just dumb.

CURVED. SWORDS.

This, this one's my personal favorite. Especially when I play my CURVED SWORD-wielding Redguard.

As if dragons weren't enough, now we've got sellswords from Hammerfell strutting about.

I had a real facepalm moment today on YouTube when I saw an "arrow in the knee" comment on a Guns 'n' Roses music video.

Well I did have one funny usage the other day so I guess I'm a nerd or dumb because I haven't been 18 since around 18 years ago. ;) Was raiding in with guildies in another game and we messed up a fight we have had on farm for over a month. My comment in vent, " We used to be good at this..and then we all took arrows in the knee." The majority cracked up and knew exactly what I was referring too. It also worked because the majority have been playing or played Skyrim and haven't been on in that game as much as usual.

Nothing wrong with silly inside gamer cracks.

Been a nerdy, dumb gamer for over 25 years and proud of it.

I wonder who the first public figure to say it is going to be. An athlete saying it would be great.
