You mean like a pvssyrbot type of thing? It would be technically possible I suppose, but impossible to fully voice and difficult and time consuming to program many on the scale of a game like skyrim to give answers logical to their character.
It would also offer extremely little real benefit though since I imagine most people aren't really interested in talking to NPCs as a real person and getting information you want would be next to impossible unless you are told beforehand what to ask which defeats the purpose a bit.

No, because then the dialog wouldn't be as specific or it would only respond to a limited number of key words. Plus there is no point, I see nothing wrong with dialog trees.

Exactly, there isn't anything with the systems that are used now and I think that actually talking during a game would take away some immersion.

It would also really annoy anyone you live with. That was one of the main complaints about End war.

No. It's an RPG. The role of "me" is a damn boring one, and I don't want to play that role in games. Plus, if I want to play as the opposite gender, it's stupid as hell because I don't sound like the opposite gender.

And, as has been said, they can't account for everything I could say. It would get frustrating try to figure out the right keyword they want to hear in order to progress a quest or something like that. Plus, I don't want to look like a big moron talking to a video game. Just give me dialogue choices.

"Hi! How are you doing?"

"Good."

"I don't understand, please rephrase."

"I am doing well."

"I don't understand, please rephrase."

"I AM DOING WELL."

"I don't understand, please rephrase."

"FFFFFF"

"I don't understand, please rephrase."

"...."

"I'm sorry, I couldn't hear you, please repeat last statement."

No thanks.

No. Its waste of resources, and adds nothing to the game.

Voice capture is possible and very old technology. Problem is, accents. It also has to cater with how smart the AI can react, basically it's a technology for military more so than gaming. Besides, you're likely cutting off huge chunk of audience with voice capturing.

QFT. Siri doesn't understand Scottish accents. Assuming the tech could understand all accents, dialects and languages as well as give intelligent responses to anything you could say and not the rehashed "I don't understand. What do you mean?" seven times in a row, it still seems like it would be an incredibly heavy scripts that would svck up an immense amout of resources.
